Reps Gabbard, Schock Introduce Resolution For #GivingTuesday

givingtuesdayA bipartisan resolution was introduced by Reps. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) and Aaron Schock (R-IL) last week that would recognize a national day of giving and volunteerism.

#GivingTuesday, now in its third year, takes place on the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving, intended to follow the widely recognized shopping events of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. This year, #GivingTuesday will take place on December 2.

The worldwide movement has over 17,000 U.S.-based partners, including Microsoft, JC Penny, Discover, Toys “R” Us, Ebay, Boys and Girls Club of the USA, MSNBC, Ronald McDonald House, USA for UNHCR, Nothing But Nets and the United Methodist Church. Celebrity supporters include Fran DrescherJessica AlbaJohn Bon JoviHugh Jackman, and Queen Latifah

“There are too many things that cause divisions within our communities, but one thing that can bring us together toward a common goal is that of giving to others, and making a positive impact on their lives,” said Congresswoman Gabbard. “We should always be looking for opportunities to serve others and give generously of our time and resources to worthy causes. ‘Giving Tuesday’ is a great way to raise awareness of our responsibility to serve others before ourselves, and give back to our communities. I encourage everyone to embrace these values and the spirit of Giving Tuesday.”

It’s a cartoon caricature of Gene Shalit Weingarten on the cover of GQ magazine.

After recovering from the trauma of seeing a poopless Weingarten, we found that he’s using Twitter to play grammar police to fellow journalists. On Monday he went after HuffPost’s Elise Foley because of her Twitter bio. It says, “Politics and immigration reporter for HuffPost. Jessica Alba tweeted one of my articles once–it’s all been downhill from there.”

What’s wrong with that? Read more
