Obamas Talk ‘Learning to Drive’ as First Daughter Malia Obama Turns 16 on July 4th

Screen Shot 2014-07-04 at 13.40.02America’s birthday is not the only celebration today in the nation’s capital – it’s also Malia Obama’s birthday. And for the eldest First Daughter, it’s not just any birthday, it’s her Sweet Sixteen.

The Washington Post’s Pamela Kirkland put together a video report for the occasion, which includes appearances by First Lady Michelle Obama on “The Late Show with Jimmy Fallon” and “Live! with Kelly and Michael.” To host Kelly Ripa, Michelle Obama said, ”I think our agents don’t want us driving with teenagers…Especially the President’s detail, I don’t think they want him in the state when she’s learning how to drive.”

It also includes footage from an ABC News special in which President Barack Obama said, “We’re going to have to figure out the logistics of that, but I promised her, she will in fact, be able to learn how to drive.”

10:15 Meeting – President Obama and VA Secretary Eric Shinseki

925272_247729215428390_231041769_aOn this morning’s “LIVE with Michael and Kelly,” President Obama foreshadowed a 10:15 am meeting he has scheduled for today with Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki.

“I’ll have a serious conversation with him about whether he thinks he’s prepared and has the capacity to take on the job of fixing it, because I don’t want any veteran to not be getting the kind of services they deserve.”

Secretary Shinseki has been under pressure to resign after at least 40 veterans died awaiting health care in Phoenix.

D.C. Journos to Aid Ovarian Cancer Research

Washingtonian Fashion Editor Kate Bennett and ABC7′s Rebecca Cooper Dupin will host an inaugural Washington fundraiser for the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund to take place at TABANDEH boutique, which sells jewelry like the piece pictured at right.

The event is May 8th from 6:30 – 8:30PM.

Also hosting will be Mobius Consulting’s CEO Melaine Privitera.

The Ovarian Cancer Research Fund is known best for their annual “Super Saturday fundraiser” in the Hamptons hosted by celebrity spokesperson Kelly Ripa.

FLOTUS to Promote ‘Let’s Move’ Anniversary With TV Tour

First lady Michelle Obama will embark on a national tour Friday to mark the third anniversary of her “Let’s Move” fitness campaign.

As part of the promotion, Obama will participate in three network TV interviews this week, according to a White House press release.

On Friday, she’s scheduled to record an interview to air same night on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.” She will also tape a segment with GMA’s Robin Roberts (who returned to GMA this morning after extended medical leave) that will air Feb. 26.

Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will join Obama to also tape an interview with Dr. Mehmet Oz for his syndicated “Dr. Oz” show. The interview will air Feb. 28.
