Caption This: A Shusteresque Father’s Day

Lefty radio host David Shuster enjoyed his first Father’s Day with newborn daughter Ayala and his wife, Kera Rennert, a producer for CBS News and Discovery Channel. “Kera took this picture of Ayala and me playing this morning on Father (5 days old),” he wrote FishbowlDC. “It’s definitely ripe for a caption contest if you want. Fine to tease/burn me…just spare the child!”

There you have it, Fishbowlers: a challenge. Come up with the best captions, don’t insult the baby girl and we’ll print the best ones. Send to or to

David Shuster Shows No Mercy for Wife Getting Pooped on by Bird

Lefty radio host David Shuster‘s new wife, Kera Rennert, a producer for CBS News and Discovery Channel, had an unusual experience on Saturday: A bird took a big dump on her in Manhattan.

She wrote on Facebook:

“A bird took a ginormous poop on me this weekend … I believe it was a pterodactyl based on the ridiculous heft of the offending matter. At first I thought someone had thrown a milkshake at me. The poop landed on my cheek and slid down my neck onto my shoulder. I started to dry heave and nearly burst into tears (remember, I’m 8 months preggers and just a wee bit sensitive). Good / Bad omen? Have at it, FBers.”

Being Shuster, he did what any loving husband with a pregnant wife would do. Read more

Weekend Wedding Bells For David Shuster

Current TV and We Act Radio’s David Shuster officially tied the knot this weekend in Manhattan with Kera Rennert, a freelance writer/producer for CBS News and Discovery Channel. The pair got engaged last summer and already has a baby on the way.

“Kera and I did not see one another on Saturday until we walked down the aisle,” Shuster told FishbowlDC in an email. “When Kera appeared and began walking down the aisle, we both cried. Who knew that your favorite cable news bad boy could be such a sap?”

They married at the Angel Orensanz Foundation for Contemporary Art, an ornate synagogue in New York City. Constructed in 1849, this gothic, cathedral-like space is the oldest surviving synagogue building in New York City. It’s the same place actress Sarah Jessica Parker and actor Matthew Broderick married in the late ’90s. “Kera looked magnificent in two Ines Di Santo gowns. One for ceremony, the other for the reception,” Shuster explained. “I wore a black tuxedo/white tie.”

As we mentioned, Rennert is… Read more

Coming Soon: The Spawn of David Shuster

As far as big announcements go, Current TV and Exec. Editor at Take Action News David Shuster made a big one over the holidays. He and fiancé, Kera Rennert, are expecting a baby! Rennert is a freelance writer, producer and director in Manhattan. Congratulations to the happy couple!

Shuter wrote on Facebook:

“And baby will make three. Kera Rennert and I are thrilled to announce that our new family is growing! After getting engaged in July, our doctors suggested we ‘get on that baby thing’ because of our ages (at least mine.) So we did. We feel humbled and blessed! Wedding as planned this winter (with a little extra fabric in Kera’s dress), baby in late June. PS I found this baby picture on the internet. If this is your kid, please don’t sue me.”

David Shuster to Get Hitched!

As the old saying goes, when you know, you know. Just six months into a courtship with an old summer camp friend, Current TV’s David Shuster is getting married. “Eddie was correct — the woman I was with Friday night at Levante’s in DC is ‘attractive, thin, and has long hair,” Shuster wrote FishbowlDC last night, referring to a sighting we wrote Monday. “Her name is Kera Rennert.  And, she is now my fiancé.  I proposed Sunday night (on my birthday) in Central Park.”

Shuster and Bloomberg‘s Julianna Goldman married in 2007 at Sixth and I Historic Synagogue and separated and separated in 2011. Their nuptials appeared in the NYT wedding section on May 27 of that year.  At the time, he worked for MSNBC.

The TV journo continued on with more details: “Kera and I have known each other for 25 years — we first met at summer camp.  Back then, I was 20 years old and a counselor; Kera was 15 years old and a camper.  No, we did not hook up back up then, nor did I think about it, nor did she.” (Ever the journalist, Shuster knew where our demented minds would go. We’re certainly delighted to hear that he didn’t commit statutory rape.)

The pair reconnected in New York in December, found much in common — she is also divorced — and have been dating now for about six months. Rennert is a New York-based freelance writer/producer/director for CBS News and Discovery Channel.

Congratulations to the happy couple! And Kera, for better or for worse, welcome to the Fishbowl.
