Haddad Brunch On the Move

Kastles Tennis mascot: Topspin

The famed White House Correspondents’ Brunch, held annually at the home Tammy Haddad and Ted Greenberg, is moving to a new locale on April 30, 2011.  Rather than torturing the fine folks of the Palisades with parking valets and  paparazzi, swarms of pastel-clad brunch-goers will migrate to Mark Ein‘s Georgetown manse for the garden gala. In addition to the revised location, the host committee has added Wendi Murdoch and Susan Axelrod as honorary event chairs.

As for the new venue, we don’t know much but we hear “Topspin” will be bouncing (ha! get it?) would-be crashers in the driveway and guests will be forced to enter and exit Ein’s home using Kastle Systems key fobs.  Okay, I made that up but a boy can dream…  Check out the video invite to this year’s event below.

DC’s Ultra-Hip Birthday Bash

EIC Karen Sommer Shalett and Publisher Peter Abrahams

The top floor and roof of PNC Place were transformed into a uber-chic lounge last Thursday evening for the fifth anniversary of DC magazine.  Guests such as big-deal businessman and Washington Kastles owner Mark Ein, reality stars Rich and Mary Amons and several folks from the Obama Administration joined DC EIC Karen Sommer Shalett and Publisher Peter Abrahams for scenic views, hip tunes, culinary treats by Ridgewells  and a variety of wet bars (FishbowlDC remembers the Jack Daniels and Kettle One bars but everything beyond that is kind of a blur).

On hand to celebrate were the new owners of the mag’s parent company, Modern Luxury.  Representing Dickey Publishing and Cumulus Broadcasting (the second largest broadcaster in the country) were the company’s president, Michael Dickey and Beth Weitzman, the organization’s Vice President of Editorial.   Media-types spotted include Real Housewives of DC’s Paul Wharton, Politico’s Kiki Ryan, CBS’s Christine Delargy, Tim Burger, Kelly DiNardo and Rosen Group VP Zachary Hooper

UrbanDaddy’s Pimp Party

urbantoplessresized.jpgSugar daddies, baby daddies, cool daddies and big daddies all feted the official launch of UrbanDaddy DC at the W Hotel last night. Snowed out on Thursday evening, last night was “take two” for the schwanky shindig and a much needed break from Blizzard-palooza 2010.

Celebrating with Washington editor Jeff Dufour were a roster of over-the-top entertainers like a rockin’ deejay, bad-ass electric violinist, topless (body painted) models, dancers and notable guests such as WaPo’s Amy Argetsinger, WBJ’s Jen Nycz-Conner, Politics Daily’s Emily Miller, Matt Cooper, Washington Kastles owner Mark Ein, Winston Lord, Daily Caller’s Becca Glover, Victoria Michael, Project Beltway’s Rachel Cothran, Daily Caller’s Moira Bagley, Examiner’s Nikki Schwab, MTP’s Betsy Fischer, Politico’s Jonathan Martin, White House heartthrob Jon Favreau, TWT’s John McCaslin, Amy Holmes, Elizabeth Thorp, Equinox restaurant owners Todd and Ellen Gray, The Hill’s Christina Wilkie and the party’s planners – Barbara Martin and Jayne Sandman Dufour of Fingerprint DC.

Despite a heinous hangover, I can vouch that a good time was had by all – especially the ladies of Qorvis who dominated the dance floor.

Washington Biz Journal‘s Prom Night

bolmain.jpg

Washington business leaders packed the National Building Museum last night for WBJ‘s annual “Book of Lists” fete. Dubbed “prom night” by WBJ‘s staffers, the glam, Mardi Gras-themed gala boasted six open bars, catering by Jose Andres, photo booth, and a head spinning number of opportunities to pass a business card.

boleditor.jpgbolalex.jpg

WBJ Publisher Alex Orfinger spent most of the evening greeting guests like Mark Ein and Winston Lord at the event’s entrance. Inside, FishbowlDC caught up with editor Doug Fruehling and Jen Nycz-Conner (pictured above) as well as Ann Curry-lookalike, reporter Melissa Castro. And though we didn’t sample the “Listini,” a mix of Smirnoff Cranberry, Chambord, Sierra Mist and cranberries, we’re pretty sure it did the trick for most guests.

W is for Wow! What a Night…

The uber-fab fete for last night’s opening of the W Hotel ranks as one of the most exciting events this year. The old Hotel Washington wore subtle pinstripes and bold lace.

“Everyone thinks of Washington power as pinstripes, but the truth is — the real power is in a lacy negligee,” said Jayne Sandman while explaining the hotel’s decor to Joe Curl and Ed Henry.

Washington media stars were glammed out and grooving to a private concert by John Legend while toasting the super-chic digs with celebs like Emmy Rossum, Johnny Wright and Tatyana Ali.

Media Night With The Washington Kastles

Well, it may not have officially been media night at the Washington Kastles match, but plenty of journos came out last night to see Serena Williams play in her first and only home match.

Joining Kastles owner Mark Ein in the front row was National Economic Council director Larry Summers, Bloomberg’s Margaret Carlson and Al Hunt, with wife Judy Woodruff of PBS. Also in the stands: Tammy Haddad, Betsy Fischer, Luke Russert, Hilary Rosen and the lovely ladies of Qorvis Kelly McCormick, Chelsea Cummings and Katie Young.

Michelle Fenty was there with her boys- who got a high-five from Ein after nearly every Kastles point scored. Legendary tennis player Billie Jean King was also there to cheer Serena on.

The Kastles may have been working it on the court last night, but earlier this week, they relaxed and enjoyed a dinner at Teatro Goldoni in honor of their season opener.

Kastles’ Murphy Jensen, Olga Puchkova, Scott Oudsema, Rennae Stubbs and Leander Paes were all in attendance, as well as proud Kastles owner Mark Ein and NBC4 sports anchor Lindsay Czarniak.
