NYT’s Ex-Ethicist Comes to Washington

Ever wanted to meet the New York Time‘s Ethicist? Well, now you can at least make the acquaintance of the first Ethicist, Randy Cohen, who joins the Washington DCJCC later this month for a talk. Cohen will discuss his book Be Good: How to Navigate the Ethics of Everything.

Cohen will reflect on his 12 years as the Ethicist, in which he wrote on such subjects as sex (gasp!), love, religion, family, and relationships. Moment magazine’s Nadine Epstein will interview Cohen on those topics and more.

The DCJCC is located at 1529 16th Street NW. Moment is co-sponsoring the event. The event is scheduled for February 20 at 7:30 p.m.

*Get Ready to Rumble: Former RNC Communications Director Doug Heye will appear on HBO’s “Real Time With Bill Maher” this Friday night alongside Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.). It’s uncertain who the third panel member will be. But Heye has high hopes. “Apparently it will be three against one – I like my odds,” he told FishbowlDC. “I’m actually looking forward to it, it should be a fun experience and I’m grateful to have been invited.”  Ex-RNC Chairman Michael Steele appeared on Maher’s program in one of his first appearances since leaving the post. His communications department definitely limited his TV appearances. As for whether RNC will be a potential topic (oh, we suspect it will come up) Heye remarked, “I’ll need to prep myself for just about any topic under the sun, so I’m going to start studying tapes like Rocky Balboa and Apollo Creed going over Clubber Lang footage.” UPDATE: The third guest on the panel has been announced: Randy Cohen, formerly “The Ethicist” columnist for NYT Magazine.

*Moment of Silence: Today at 2 p.m. we will take a moment to mourn the short life of @PoliticoMouse. The rodent was murdered last week. No formal suspects have been named…but the death was provoked by an email to staff from Politico Editor-in-Chief John Harris to cut out the anonymous Twitter accounts. Anyone wishing to provide commentary or a quote for the obit, write to or Your name isn’t necessary as we pay our respects to this beloved anonymous animal.

*Journo gets Unsolicited Sex and Beach Tips: A reader had tips for CQ-Roll Call‘s Craig Crawford who has declared himself on “Spring Break” this week. No, he’s not in Cancun or South Padre Island (Texas). He’s in Connecticut and headed to a casino today. On the Trail Mix Blog: “No matter how drunk they get, 20-year old co-eds are NOT interested in you. Stick to the 30-something cocktail waitresses.” And this: “Best time to go to the beach is early AM. All the college kids, who might otherwise laugh at how you look in a swimsuit, will still be asleep.” See if you can spot Crawford in the picture here…
