CQ Roll Call Restructure Part Deux

An internal memo from Managing Editor Keith White on the restructure at CQ Roll Call reveals more changes. We already reported on David Rapp‘s promotion to the newly created Chief Content Officer position, but it seems there’s much more to the restructure as well. The unifying theme is a regrouping of resources based on function as opposed to separate business focuses. We also previously reported that VP of Marketing Valerie Voci had been moved to an advisory role. The memo reveals that this is a temporary position, as Voci will be leaving CQ Roll Call shortly to “return to running her own business.”

Senior Vice President of Advocacy and Engagement Peter Anthony has been named Chief Product Officer, overseeing a new combined product and IT team. Anthony will be tasked with developing and designing new products for CQ Roll Call, and identifying new potential markets for new and existing products. Former CTO Dennis Arndt will be advising Anthony, as well as other company leadership, in his new roll.

Meg Hargreaves has also been named Chief Retention Officer and Rick Rockelli is the head of a new, unified Sales and Circulation Marketing team. Read the whole memo after the jump.

CQ Roll Call: The 411 on Mike Mills, a New CFO, and Other Changes

At around 11:30 a.m. CQ Roll Call Editorial Director Mike Mills called an all-newsroom meeting. Highlights: Mills is out and off to a new job at the Society for Science and the Public. Vinay Shah is the new CFO. Lastly, Rick Rockelli has been promoted to SVP and Chief Revenue Officer.

And the hunt for a new Editorial Director is on.

Here’s the internal memo…

Editorial Director Mike Mills Out at CQ Roll Call

With changes at the bottom, middle and everywhere in between, come changes at the top. CQ Roll Call Editorial Director Mike Mills is out, which should make a slew of current and former journalists there ecstatic as he has been described to us as “the devil” and other similar descriptions by multiple sources. To put it mildly, the newsroom wasn’t pleased when Editor Charlie Mitchell was forced out in September of 2011 and Mills was viewed as largely to blame.

Mills has a new job lined up and, at least surfacely, is leaving on good terms. They’re saying he’ll be missed by newsroom, where he did some “fantastic things” in bringing the company together.

Who’s on their way in? A new CFO, and new head of sales. The CFO is an Economist guy.
The new head of sales is an internal promotion for Rick Rockelli.

Until Mills’ replacement is found, Susan Benkelman and Scott Montgomery will head up the newsroom, which should undoubtedly please reporters living in unpredictable times. The company laid off some 30 employees on the business end of the publication earlier in the week in addition to a small number of editorial employees. Benkelman and Montgomery are well-liked and respected editors. Keith White is confident they will do a good job as the company hunts for a new editorial director.
