D.C. Real Housewives Party Boasts Drag Queens

Bravo-lebrities (the term for people who wouldn’t be considered celebrities without Bravo putting them on TV) invaded Eden tonight in Northwest D.C. to celebrate the launch of Real Housewife of D.C. Cat Ommanney‘s new book, “Inbox Full.”

Fellow cast members Stacie Scott Turner and Mary Schmidt Amons showed up with their husbands, as did honorary housewife and D.C. stylist Paul Wharton. Lizard Lady Lynda Erkiletian was a no-show, but instead sent her boyfriend, Ebong Eka. Unless, of course, she was slithering around the club, hiding in the shadows.

Amons had three midget-sized ladies who followed her around for much of the evening. She looks six feet tall, so possibly her height dwarfed them. In any case, they finally left her side to get drinks. At which point, another woman swooped in for a picture, but hysteria ensued as her friend dropped the camera and then her drink, which spilled all over the camera. No picture for them.

While the midget trio was distracted, FishbowlDC snagged an interview. Amons said she’d read “Inbox Full” and loved it, and was especially looking forward Cat’s next book, which was written during filming of the show. The cast hasn’t heard about a possible season two of “Real Housewives,” but Amons said their contracts are almost up. Asked if she’d do a second season, she said she’d “consider it.”

What’s a party without drag queens? Four of them. Their attendance was inexplicable. Photographers loved them so much that Ommanney eventually took a microphone and said, “Well, excuse me, it’s my party…Love you drag queens, but it’s my party.” That sassy, sassy Brit.

Just before the book signing, Moki Media co-founder Dannia Hakki took the stage to introduce local Fox reporter Will Thomas, who then introduced Ommanney, who then introduced her father, who then turned the mic over to Wharton, who then promised a lap dance to anyone who bought five copies of “Inbox Full.” And then I left.

Topics of conversation at Eden included Charlie Sheen, Michaele Salahi and her failure to crash this party, and a whole lot of conversations that went: “Nice to meet you!” “No, it’s nice to meet YOU!”

Sadly, the Salahis didn’t make it. They weren’t invited, but as Washington well knows, that’s  never stopped them before.

THE WIVES: Mary, Cat and Stacie. Want more? See the drag queens after the jump…

Burberry Buddies

What do Mediate founder Dan Abrams, Glover Park Group’s Michael Feldman and Fox 5′s Will Thomas have in common?  Apparently, a passion for plaid.

All three were spotted noshing over novacheck at the Burberry in Dupont Circle last night.  The store played host to a special shoptail party where guests took photos in the latest Burberry looks to appear in GQ magazine.  Ana Marie Cox, GQ‘s resident bad girl of politics was not on the scene.

Hard to Resist: A Cocktail Soiree With Greek Meze…

greek-meatballs-1.jpg

A gathering on Monday evening is expected to attract a bunch of journalists and a hoard of lawmakers as Mike Manatos celebrates his 20 year anniversary as V.P. of the government relations firm, Manatos & Manatos. The cocktail reception with Greek meze is being held at Kellari Taverna on K Street in downtown Washington.

Journos are sure to be there. Manatos is, after all, married to Fox 5′s Laura Evans. She’ll attend with fellow Fox 5-ers (unless, of course, there’s breaking news). Those expected to attend include: Shawn Yancy (Laura’s co-host), Sue Palka; reporter Will Thomas; and Alison Starling from ABC 7.

Among the chattier guests will be MNSBC “Hardball” host Chris Matthews, who plans to attend with his wife, Kathleen. The Manatos family has been tight with the Matthews family for decades – they and their children have attended
the Manatos Christmas party for many years.

Beyond journalists, 15 members of Congress plan to put in some face time at the party as well as President of the Center for American Progress John Podesta and a variety of White House staffers – we’re hearing the First Lady’s deputy chief of staff and the V.P.’s Social Secretary.

Which members of Congress plan to show up? Find out after the jump…

Why Bloomberg’s style guide, “The Bloomberg Way” bans words like “but,” “despite,” and “however.”

NBC’s Chuck Todd appeared live from Shanghai this morning, reporting from the president’s Asian trip. But after rolling Todd’s spot, the chief White House correspondent didn’t return. Why? Because the Washington Bureau lost its power.

ONLINE

According to a new study, about half in U.S. would pay for online news.

MAGZINES

When Newsweek laid off 13 people from its already depleted editorial staff last week, the reaction from the professional media watchers was muted.

NEWS NOTES

Fox 5 reporter and anchor Will Thomas was robbed at gunpoint as he got out of his car in Georgetown, near Wisconsin and N, on Wednesday night.

Media Minxes Flock to Film Screening

Though many in the media were covering the death of Senator Kennedy on Wednesday evening, a few notables still made it out to a special screening of “The September Issue,” a documentary about Vogue Editor Anna Wintour.

TWT‘s Green and Glover
tell us that among the sea of skin-tight cocktail dresses and sky-high stilettos were CNN’s Jessica Yellin, Fox 5′s Will Thomas, CNN’s Michelle Jaconi and NBC4′s Lindsay Czarniak. FNC Anchor Bret Baier‘s wife, Amy attended with Susanna Quinn wearing “matching little white numbers with cleavage practically up to their chins.”

Young and the Press List

Some on the “press list” and some on the “guest list,” journos came out in swarms to last night’s Young and the Guest List party hosted by Washington Life Magazine. The super-chic soiree was held at last year’s site for ARTOMATIC – a soon-to-be occupied office building on 1st St. NE. Guests were treated to pyramids of cupcakes, several open bars and a gifting suite in the rugged and lofty space.

Guest list-er Tommy McFly did his Mix 107.3 evening show live from the fete while champagne flowed freely and a band entertained the crowd. A few of the media folks spotted at last night’s function were NBC’s Luke Russert, CNN’s Amy Holmes, Politico’s Patrick Gavin, TWT’s Stephanie Green, Carol Ross Joynt, Pamela Sorenson, Washingtonian’s Garrett Graff, NBC’s Savannah Guthrie, Rachel Cothran, Betsy Fischer, Will Thomas, Pamela Brown and representing for WaPo were Dan Zak & Amy Argetsinger.

It’s Here. Washington Life‘s 2009 The Young & The Guest List

And now the moment we’ve all been waiting with bated breath for… Washington Life Magazine‘s 2009 The Young & the Guest List is here.

The annual collection of 250 of the “most influential Washingtonians under 40″ includes the scene’s well-knowns like NBC’s Luke Russert, Fox’s Bret Baier and CNN’s Jessica Yellin, as well as fresh new faces like MIX 107.3′s Tommy McFly.

Now we can’t divulge the full list here, but we can share these stats:

55% of the individuals on the 2009 Young & The Guest List are new additions to the list this year. (Note: the total number of listees has not increased since 2008)

39 individuals, or approximately 1 in 6, work on Capitol Hill, in the White House, the diplomatic corps, or public service

41 are CEO’s and 67 people, or approximately 1 in 4 have founded a company or non-profit

34% are married

Male 54%/Female 46%

35 people, or 12% are media professionals

The 2009 Y&GL party will be held Thursday, April 16th at an undisclosed location, and the guest list is pretty exclusively these 250 and one guest each.

To see if you’ve made the cut, check out the 35 media professionals after the jump.
