Tale of the Tape
Sorry for getting to this late…We figured that if Obama can send his text out late, well, hell, we can take our time, too.
SO: As we all know, CNN’s John King first broke the news that Sen. Joe Biden would be Sen. Barack Obama’s veep pick (Saturday, 12:42a.m. … CNN’s Breaking News tweet went out at 12:52am), joining an elite group of Washington journos who have broken that highly-sought-after scoop: Andrea Mitchell, Ron Fournier, Dan Balz, to name a few.
Here’s how the breaking news email alerts came out:
Marc Ambinder wrote: “For the record, CNN’s John King was first. CBS’s Steve Chaggaris was second. Then came AP. I came in fourth. Ha.”
(Oh, and by the way: We knew that a news organization would break the news before Obama’s text message went out…)
We should note that Frank Luntz called the Biden pick earlier on Friday, but he’s certainly not the only pundit to predict that.
AP: “Best-laid plans: Media beat Obama to the punch”
