Not related to either the first McCracken or the fictional McCracken — nor to Jeff McCracken at the Detroit Free Press, about whom I’m asked on occasion. Not to thoroughly disappoint you, though, I can trace my family back to a well-known Indiana University basketball player who later coached the Hoosiers to two NCAA Championships and who has an even cooler name than mine: Branch McCracken.
