The Hill’s Hooper Gets Hooked on Tennis

The Hill‘s Molly Hooper won two tennis matches over the weekend in the U.S. Tennis Association mid-Atlantic championships, helping to qualify her team to go to the national championship in Arizona.

Managing Editor Bob Cusack also played and won two matches. He’s behaving very generously about Hooper’s win and says he’s happy for her. “I am very excited for her,” said Cusack, who made it to Arizona last year. “It’s so hard to get there and I told her it’s a great experience. The Hill was well represented this weekend. Molly and I were a combined 4-0. I hope she can bring home a national championship.”

Hooper tells FishbowlDC that she played on the competitive junior tennis circuit growing up in Northern California and for her high school team. “But I didn’t touch a racket for more than 10 years,” she said. “Over the past few years though, I started hitting here and there. This is the first year that I have played competitively, and I am hooked again.”

She attests that Cusack has been supportive of her win. “Bob was the epitome of grace,” she said. “It felt like he was on my team! He was the first person to congratulate me – he had the news that my DC team was on our way to Tucson before I told my parents.”
