U.S. News’ Schlesinger Gets Promoted

U.S. News & World Report‘s Robert Schlesinger has been promoted to Managing Editor/Opinion. In a memo Thursday, Executive Editor Tim Smart points out that under Schlesinger’s direction, the Opinion section has grown from a couple thousand page views a month to 1.4 million. Schlesinger wrote a note of thanks to his colleagues saying, in part, “I’m sure I don’t need to say that I owe you all a huge debt of thanks for the great contributions you’ve made this year.”

Congratulations to Schlesinger.

Folks—
Please join me in congratulating Robert on his promotion to Managing Editor/Opinion. Since launching the new Opinion section, Robert has tirelessly convinced folks to share their views with the U.S. News audience at the Thomas Jefferson Street blog and in op-eds. He has also shared some of his own opinions, both online and in the U.S. News Weekly.

This year, Robert oversaw the highly successful launch of Debate Club. In  a matter of days, Opinion will be launching Referendum and a new section front. Under his direction, the Opinion section has grown from a few thousand page views a month to its current monthly average of about 1.4 million page views. And I have no doubt it will grow even more.

From May to November, Robert was indispensable  in overseeing the daily news operation while we ramped up. He also found time to become a father again, timing the birth of his son to coincide with the arrival of additional editing help.
