Update on TNR’s Layoffs
While we’ve received conflicting stories on the original number of intended layoffs at The New Republic, TNR spokeswoman Elizabeth Thorp explained in an e-mail that the layoffs currently claimed five editorial staffers. As she explains it, three staff writers are being transitioned to contract, and two “junior researcher” positions have been terminated.
Thorp wrote that prior to today’s cuts, TNR employed 30 full-time newsroom staff. She also said the three staffers moving to contract are “keeping titles, two of whom are making more money and will probably write more.”
