WaPo Loses Features Web Editor to NYT

WaPo is on a roll these days of employees leaving the Style section. This morning management announced to staff in a memo that Mike McPhate, the Features web editor, has joined the NYT‘s homepage team. They say he’s eager to move back to New York so he can be closer to his family.

Congratulations to McPhate.

See the lovely, complimentary internal memo…

We are sad to announce that Features web editor Mike McPhate will be
leaving for a web producer position with the New York Times where he’ll be
part of their homepage team. Mike is eager to return to New York to live
closer to family. Last fall, Mike accepted the challenging role of leading
the Entertainment & Lifestyle production team during a period of multiple
changes. He has been a gracious, hardworking and talented leader, helping
to create a new digital operation in Style and other feature sections.

Mike joined the Post’s digital operations in the spring of 2008 as a senior
producer in Local and then moved to the local homepage later that year.
Mike also did a stint as a reporter for local in the summer of 2010,
covering the killing of Maryland state trooper Wesley Brown and the
Maryland earthquake of 2010.  His digital accomplishments at the Post
include piloting the local page during Snowmageddon and being a part of the
web effort for the Stewart-Colbert rally and the royal wedding. Mike’s hard
work and many talents will be missed.  His last day will be June 1. We wish
him the best.
