Alzheimer’s Diagnosis, Final Album, Farewell Tour for Glen Campbell

Glen Campbell has been diagnosed with early-stage Alzheimer’s disease, the country singer tells People magazine. The 75-year-old has suffered memory loss for years, but learned of his condition just six months ago. Real estate junkies might recall that in February, he and his wife Kimberly placed their Malibu home on the market.

Campbell tells People:

“I still love making music. And I still love performing for my fans. I’d like to thank them for sticking with me through thick and thin.”

Campbell’s wife, Kim, said they decided to go public with his diagnosis ahead of a final concert tour this fall.

“Glen is still an awesome guitar player and singer,” she said. “But if he flubs a lyric or gets confused on stage, I wouldn’t want people to think, ‘What’s the matter with him? Is he drunk?’”

Campbell’s final album, “Ghost on the Canvas,” will hit stores Aug. 30. A “Glen Campbell Goodbye Tour” is planned for the fall, though dates have not been anounced.
