Anne Thompson: Golden Globes May Not Be Televised

ggredpic.jpgVariety says it has been hearing rumblings that the on-going writers’ strike means the Golden Globes will not be televised. Others concur.

Our guess? It won’t matter. Nobody watches the shows for the shows — they watch them for the gowns. So if the awards themselves aren’t televised, you can bet there’ll be red carpet after-party specials, showcasing all the diamonds and dresses that you missed from the celebs who refused to cross picket lines.

Who will win in this scenario? The infinitely more flexible print media. It’s Christmas in January, Us Weekly.
