Atlantic Names Michael Kelly Award Finalists

The finalists for this year’s Michael Kelly Award have been announced. The award — in its 10th year — is in honor of Kelly, who edited two Atlantic Media publications and was killed while covering the Iraq war. The winner of the $25,000 prize will be announced April 14.

2013 Michael Kelly Award finalists:

  • Alberto Arce, the Associated Press. Arce is honored for his work in Honduras.
  • David BarbozaThe New York Times. Barboza is honored for his piece on Wen Jiabao, the Prime Minister of China. 
  • Brian Mockenhaupt, Byliner.com. Mockenhaupt is honored for his article on a Marine platoon in Afghanistan that took many casualties. 
  • Michael PhillipsThe Wall Street Journal. Phillips is honored for his reporting on what soldiers experienced in Afghanistan and once they returned home.
