BUZZMEDIA Founder is King of LinkedIn

The permalink for Tyler Goldman‘s LinkedIn page is /tylertheplumber. And that’s just what the 45-year-founder and CEO of LA’s BUZZMEDIA has done; plumbed the depths of the network to such an impressive extent that he has become a poster child of sorts.

To get a better sense of the man behind the titanic page, Bloomberg Businessweek reporter Roger Bennett recently chatted with Goldman. The BUZZMEDIA CEO, who by day watches over a massive empire of entertainment news and celebrity web sites, says it all began with the Boy Scouts of America:

“I started by becoming immensely active in an Eagle Scouts group, immersing myself in the discussion threads and adding news. I had never been an Eagle Scout myself, but I wanted to see how LinkedIn could leverage the potential and passion of their audiences, so I stimulated a conversation about the lack of transparency in the award of merit badges.

The Scouts ignored all of my suggestions about improving their badge-nominating process, but their nuanced discussion made me realize what a platform the site could be for passion and interests, and I wanted to see how deep I could go.”

FishbowlLA thinks LinkedIn brass would be wise to review Goldman’s answer to one of the final Businessweek Q&A entries. He explains what three things he would immediately change if he was hired to run the application.
