Our mediabistro.com Job Board is Incredible

Maybe it’s all these strange niche blogs that seem to be getting book deals of late, but the old 80′s show That’s Incredible was on our mind the other day. The show, which in our youth seemed utterly crazy (and yes incredible), in retrospect was pretty tame, you know, compared to the Internet. Anyway, you know what’s also incredible? Our job board! Currently there are postings for a Website Editor & Executive Assistant to the CEO, also an Editor-in-Chief, and a Web Producer. And there is plenty more where those came from here.

Gleaming Your Job Cube

To Our Readers: Media May Be Down, But It’s Not Out

As even infrequent readers of this blog can see, the media industry has been wracked with closures, layoffs, hiring freezes and more. This note isn’t designed to run you through bad news you already know or add to those reports. Rather, it’s to take a moment amid our industry’s tumult to renew our commitment to bringing you news and information that sheds light on our media world throughout these challenging times.

Whether you’ve personally experienced our industry’s contraction or feel the anxiety shared by so many in our field, we want to remind you: opportunity still exists in our business. Media may be down, but it’s not out: mediabistro.com’s job board continues to list fresh jobs daily, and even organizations that have experienced contraction continue to post openings there.

Retrench, but don’t lay down — avail yourselves of all the offerings we design with just one goal in mind: to help you prevail in whichever aspect of media you wish to conquer. Finally, let us know if there’s anything further we can do to help you succeed and prosper.

Want to Know Where the Media Types are Partying? Check Out mediabistro.com’s The Press List

541190910_8e1f4da907.jpgEverybody knows that the key to succeeding in media is schmoozing! Well in New York media anyway. (The boa is optional, though clearly it has proven results). To that end, the ever industrious mediabistro.com folks who run our show (and they are seriously industrious, have you looked through all this stuff?) bring you The Press List, a weekly newsletter alerting you to upcoming media events worth knowing about. Here’s a sneak peek:

On Friday, there will be several magazine-sponsored events for your Halloween partying convenience: Esquire hosts the annual celebrity-studded Joonbug masquerade at Capitale. Hip-hopper-turned-MTV reality star Reverend Run will be the evening’s master of ceremonies. For those of you who’d rather not pony up for a ticket, Mass Appeal and Missbehave will team up with Rockstar Games to host a dance party in Williamsburg. If you’re looking for a more refined Halloween night, The Economist, kicks off its “Off The Page Discussion Series” Friday, with Leonard Lopate hosting a fittingly morbid look at the “art of obituary.” Off the Page events will continue throughout the weekend…
