Catholic League Raises Hell Over The Three Stooges

The Three Stooges remake has caught the attention of at least one person out there.

Catholic League president Bill Donohue isn’t too fond of the Peter and Bobby Farrelly movie, raising objection to Kate Upton‘s nun bikini (Have you seen Ms. Upton, Bill?) and Larry David‘s role as Sister Mary-Mengele:

The Stooges are depicted seeking to raise money for their orphanage; it is run by habit-wearing, stereotypical nuns. One of the sisters is played by swimsuit model Kate Upton; she is shown wearing a “nun bikini” with a large rosary around her neck. Another nun, Sister Mary-Mengele, named after the Nazi war criminal, is played by Seinfeld creator Larry David.

In 2009, David proved what he thinks about Catholics when he was shown going to the bathroom in a Catholic home splattering urine on a picture of Jesus (it was his own show). Last night he said to Conan O’Brien that dressing as a nun in the film makes it easy to understand why nuns are “so mean.” He explains, “You know, the outfits might have something to do with that. Forget about the fact that they never have sex. If you gave me a choice of no sex or having to wear that outfit the rest of my life, I would definitely take the no sex.

I think the Catholic League might have bigger issues to tackle than worrying about Upton’s assets or David’s cameo.

Nyuk, nyuk, nyuk.

Update (4:04 PM): A Fox spokesperson released a statement to The Hollywood Reporter regarding the Catholic League’s uproar:

“The movie, in keeping with the spirit of the original TV show and its stars, is a broad, slapstick comedy,” a Fox spokesperson said.

“As the Stooges have proved over time, laughter is a universal medicine. The nuns that Mr. Donohue alludes to, are in fact, caring, heroic characters in the movie, albeit within the framework of a very broad comedy,” the spokesperson continued. “And as far as the nun attire, I think we did the audinece a favor by letting Kate Upton wear the nun-kini rather than Larry David — it could have gone either way. We invite you to see the movie and decide for yourselves.”
