Complex Spins-Off From Parent Company To Distance Itself From Debt

cover_bell21.jpgComplex magazine, founded by Marc Ecko and headed under the parent company Marc Ecko Enterprises, is about to grow wings and fly the coop.

That is, Complex will now be part of Complex Media, also owned by Ecko, but without all that bothersome debt that its original publisher carried with it. Complex raised $12.8 million in funding for its new venture, not an easy task in today’s publishing world. Then again, urbanwear designer Ecko seems himself to have been born under a lucky star: despite the financial troubles of MEE, the company received $108 million in exchange for a majority stake from apparel company Iconix Brand Group little over a month ago.
