Dodgers Make it Official and Sign Deal with KLAC

The Los Angeles Dodgers agreed to terms with Clear Channel Communications, which makes KLAC 570-AM the new broadcast home of the baseball organization from 2012-2014.

Tom Hoffarth of the Daily News first reported last month the Dodgers had agreed in principal to a multilyear deal with the sports talk station.

Los Angeles – The Los Angeles Dodgers announced today that they have agreed to terms with Clear Channel Communications on an integrated marketing and broadcasting agreement, and will be heard on AM 570 Fox Sports L.A. from 2012-2014.

“We are extremely pleased that this partnership takes Dodger broadcasts to one of the best sports radio stations in the country, AM 570 Fox Sports L.A.,” said the Dodgers’ chief revenue officer Michael Young. “Clear Channel’s all-sports format will elevate the Dodgers in terms of coverage and significantly enhance our fans’ engagement with the club. Through this strategic partnership, the Dodgers will now have the opportunity to connect with the millions of listeners that tune into Clear Channel’s wide-reaching AM and FM stations.”

The multi-year contract will grant AM 570 Fox Sports L.A. the English-language radio broadcast rights. In addition to broadcasting all 162 regular-season games, at least seven Spring Training games and all potential postseason games, the popular AM station will partner with the Dodgers on a fully-integrated marketing campaign, to promote the team on Clear Channel Radio stations.

“The Dodgers are synonymous with Los Angeles. The team has the ability to connect people regardless of age, gender or race. Our Clear Channel stations have multi-demo and multi-cultural appeal that nicely complements the Dodgers’ brand and will provide unique marketing opportunities,” said Greg Ashlock, president and market manager, Clear Channel Communications, who began his career in the Dodgers’ front office. “We’re also humbled to have Vin Scully, the greatest play-by-play announcer – period, lead our broadcast team.”

DodgerTalk, the postgame show that provides fans an opportunity to share their thoughts on the team, will broadcast for at least one hour after every game. An hour-long season countdown show will also air Monday through Saturday at 7:00 p.m. PT from the start of Spring Training until Opening Day.

AM 570 Fox Sports L.A.’s radio signal covers all five counties in Los Angeles and the station will continue to provide game broadcasts and pre- and post-game shows to the entire Dodger Radio Network, which includes 22 stations across the state and country.

In 2005, USA Today ranked the Dodgers’ radio broadcast team of Vin Scully, Rick Monday and Charley Steiner as the best in Major League Baseball based on a technical rating, a fan rating and an entertainment rating. The trio earned 28.5 points out of a possible 30. Scully, who has the longest tenure of any sports broadcaster with one team, will return in 2012 for his 63rd season as the “Voice of the Dodgers.” He will call the first three innings in the simulcasts, while Monday and Steiner will be on air for all 162 games. Monday will enter his 19th season as a broadcaster and 27th with the organization. Steiner will call Dodger games for the eighth consecutive season.
