If the Shoe Was On the Other Foot…

Just in case Sunday is your day off of all media – and you don’t get any text messages from your snarky friends – and your phone is off the hook – President George W. Bush went on a ‘surprise’ trip to Iraq over the weekend, the final one as a sitting president. At a press conference, a journalist threw his shoes at him.

There are a couple of different translations of what he yelled in Arabic. Our favorite is from Politico:

“This is a gift from the Iraqis. This is the farewell kiss, you dog,” the journalist shouted (in Arabic), Steven Lee Myers of The New York Times reported in a pool report to the White House press corps.

Myers reported that the man threw the second shoe and added: “This is from the widows, the orphans and those who were killed in Iraq.”

Personally, we’ve never had a heckler that articulate – ever.

Secondly, this sets a new standard (low or high) for journalists.

And thirdly, isn’t The Artful Dodger a character in Oliver Twist?
