MSG Varsity Putting on a ‘Talent Show’ For Students
Taking a page from the American Idol playbook, MSG Varsity is debuting a showcase for aspiring singers, dancers, and bands.
MSG Varsity’s Talent Show is a new series open to high school students in the Cablevision viewing area. Those interested in auditioning have until February 28 to submit online at www.msgvarsity.com in four categories: vocal ensemble, individual singer, dance ensemble, and rock/pop band.
After that, 32 acts (eight from each category) will be chosen to perform on Talent Show, premiering Sunday, April 17 at 6 p.m. on Cablevision’s iO TV (Channel 14).
The show’s host is Queens native Jared Cotter, a former Idol semi-finalist.
Students will compete each week with the ultimate goal of becoming Talent Show Champion.
Winners will be determined in each of the four groupings by weekly online fan voting. Performers with the most votes each week advance to the next round. The top two finalists from each category will hit the stage on Sunday, June 5, with the champions announced on June 12.
“Through our coverage of high school arts programs, we’ve encountered so many talented students,” said Theresa Chillianis, general manager, MSG Varsity. “We’re looking forward to seeing all of the submissions and finding out who the viewers pick as MSG Varsity’s Talent Show Champions.”
