0828sharpton.jpgSo, let’s say was posting a story about the reaction to the Michael Vick case in the African-American community. Let’s say reporter Alex Johnson came across a parody website called Newsgroper that featured fake op-eds like “Supposed lesbo lacks spice” by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and “I actually thought that the cowbell was just right” by Christopher Walken. In Johnson’s piece, he quoted this graf from an op-ed written for the site by “Al Sharpton“:

Consider this: If the police caught Brett Favre running a dolphin-fighting ring out of his pool, where dolphins with spears attached to their foreheads fought each other to the death, would they bust him? Of course not. They would get his autograph, commend him on his tightly-spiraled forward passes, then bet on one of his dolphins. (Probably the dolphin that can do the most flips – those dolphins would possess stronger necks, more skill manipulating their death spears and something like 3-1 odds.)

Yes, that really made it into an article. It took several hours for to put a correction on the site: “”An earlier version of this article quoted from a blog entry purportedly by the Rev. Al Sharpton. has determined that the blog is a hoax.”

Meanwhile, Fake Al Sharpton has responded.
