Mutineer Magazine Begins Its Fourth Nomadic Year

For Alan Kropf, publisher and editor-in-chief of Mutineer magazine, survival has encompassed sticking to a bi-monthly print schedule and moving the offices of his beverage-focused publication up and down the west coast after an initial LA launch.

But there he is, still standing this month with issue #19, cranked out of his current Napa headquarters and featuring a centerpiece interview with Wine Enthusiast west coast editor Steve Heimoff. Kropf, a one-time Beverly Hills Hotel sommelier and restaurant employee for super-chef Gordom Ramsay, tells the Napa Valley Register‘s Natalie Hoffman that there is a real strategic benefit to moving around so much:

“We’ve moved the company approximately once a year in an effort to build relationships with the beverage culture in different areas,” Kropf said, adding that the publication’s headquarters touched down in Seattle and Calaveras County before its recent landing in Napa.”

Kropf is definitely not an old-school beverage connoisseur. He tells the reporter his favorite Napa hangout is a city’s skateboarding park and urges people who want to learn about a wine to just start drinking it more.
