Now that the dust has (sort of) settled over at the Washington Post, Editor&Publisher is reporting that it looks like more than one-hundred people have accepted the WaPo buyout offer (much as FishbowlDC suspected). Of the 700 person staff room, 230 people were eligible for the buyout meaning there was close to a 50 percent departure rate (yep, we do the math here at fishbowlNY so you don't have to).

However, in answer to our days-long, who would survive the exodus and be left to run the newsroom question, it seems that Executive Editor Len Downie, oft-rumored to be leaving, is actually...not. As far as his so-called "deathwatch" is concerned, Downie didn't seem all that fazed,

People must be hard up for subjects. ... The publisher and I are hard at work on the restructuring of the newsroom and its relationship with the Web site. I am still working in my office.
