Occidental College Enjoying Another Boffo Film Production Year

This is one of the stranger film location substitutions FishbowlLA has come across in quite some time. But apparently, it’s quite normal.

Per an article in the LA Times by Richard Verrier, scenes connected to the Netflix reboot of Arrested Development were shot last week with co-stars Michael Cera and Jason Bateman. Though set at UC Irvine, the sequences were in fact filmed on the Eagle Rock campus of Occidental College. All part of what is turning out to be welcome uptick:

In the last [fiscal] year alone, the 120-acre college has hosted more than 16 productions, up from 11 the prior year, college officials said… The college got a rare opportunity to play itself this spring in the upcoming movie Look of Love with Annette Bening and Ed Harris as an Occidental College art professor.

Other scholastic on-screen doppelgangers conjured up east of Eagle Rock Blvd. include UCLA, Columbia University, UC Berkeley and Boston College. Top-end productions pay around $9,000 a day for use of the facilities.
