OK! Let’s Spend Some Money on a PR Firm!

ok-magazine-india8.jpgCeleb weekly OK! bucked the trend and had an excellent first half. Circulation grew by 19 percent and ad sales are up more than 30 percent. For this, we commend the staff.

We can’t, however, commend them for recruiting publisher Tom Morrissy to send out an email press release detailing the mag’s successes. It starts out “Dear Advertiser” and gets more impersonal from there. Can’t you take some of that advertising money and hire a PR firm? (Yes, we’re aware Morrissy didn’t send these emails, but we stand by our contention that it makes OK! look ridiculous. Sort of like that exclamation point.)
