One-Time New York Anchor Steve Bartelstein Fired in Chicago

For anchor Steve Bartelstein, his career has ridden highs and lows. Unfortunately, in recent years, those highs have been few and far between.

Bartelstein is out as morning co-anchor at WBBM-TV after only 10 months, a station spokeswoman confirmed to FishbowlNY.

His last day was Friday.

While it’s not certain what led to Bartelstein’s demise, he’s no stranger to what some perceive as bizarre behavior.

In 2007, Bartelstein was axed from WABC/Channel 7 after sleeping through his scheduled newscast.

He resurfaced at WCBS/Channel 2 six months later. During that time, Bartelstein was diagnosed with testicular cancer. He left the station abruptly in 2009. He claimed that WCBS mailed his paycheck, which was needed for medical expenses, instead of picking it up as he did previously.

FishbowlNY attempted to reach Bartelstein for comment.

Sister site TVSpy has more on Bartelstein’s departure.
