Middle East Parents Edition Expands Brand to 7th Country

NEW YORK, N.Y. (February 1, 2010) — Meredith Corporation (NYSE: MDP) announced today that it has launched an Arabic language version of its highly popular Parents magazine.

Parents Arabia is published and distributed under license by Saudi Specialized Publishing Company, a Riyadh-based subsidiary of Saudi Research & Publishing Company (SSPC). The first issue is currently hitting newsstands in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, and the two companies plan on expanding the relationship across the Middle East to reach additional audiences in countries such as Jordan and Bahrain.

Since its acquisition of Parents magazine in 2005, Meredith has rapidly expanded the licensing of the Parents brand. Today, the brand is published locally in six countries, including China, Indonesia, India and Greece.

“We are excited to have Parents extend its unique voice for modern moms to another new audience,” says Dana Points, Editor in Chief.

“The Saudi Arabian launch of Parents is an important step in our strategy to significantly expand the reach of our leading brands globally to meet growing consumer and advertise demand,” said John Zieser, Meredith’s Chief Development Officer. “Parents’ expert content has a wide appeal to international audiences and the global marketers that want to reach them. We are currently seeking similar alliances for both our print and online content across the globe.”

“We are introducing to the Arab market a brand that is full of resourceful content for readers and brings great international authenticity and credibility to a well-educated audience,” said Mohammad Alomar, SSPC’s managing director. “The Arabic edition of Parents is building a very promising base of readers based on the well-established authority of the Parents brand.”

Zieser notes that over the next several months, Meredith is expected to further deepen its portfolio of licensing agreements for its leading brands. “When you combine our multi-media expertise with great content that women care about, you have a great business opportunity. That is driving new international licensing opportunities for us in a wide diversity of countries and cultures.”
