Five More Journalists Join the Orange County Register

The hits just keep on coming down in Santa Ana, with the Orange County Register adding a features writer, a breaking news reporter, a baseball writer and a pair of copy editors.

Pedro Moura (pictured) comes to the Angels-Dodgers beat from ESPN LA, where he had been covering USC sporting matters since 2009. His duties at the paper will include pinch hitting as needed for staffers Jeff Fletcher and Bill Plunkett.

One of feature writer Samantha Dunn‘s first tasks meanwhile will be to contribute to the paper’s January 26 edition of “Celebrations,” a recently launched monthly section devoted to newly married couples and other happy unions. The one-time editor of Shape magazine and long-time freelancer can lay claim to not one but two published memoirs, including the hard-to-beat title Faith in Carlos Gomez: A Memoir of Salsa, Sex and Salvation.

On the community newspaper side of things, the Register has re-upped to full-time as copy editor Nikki Batalis. In between her various stints with the paper, she has worked for the Ventura Star, Los Angeles Daily News and as managing editor of Cat Fancy magazine. Joining her in those trenches is copy editor and page designer Joel Rosario.

Finally, Alyssa Duranty, who began working at the Register as a freelancer in 2011 while attending Chapman University and continued post-graduation this past summer as an intern, has been hired as to cover breaking news and crime. “Fresh out of the college classroom, it is a profound opportunity to work for the Orange County Register, and learn and grow from the world-class minds here,” she said. Congrats to all.
