Tonic, the storied and financially-strapped experimental music venue, may have closed, but it didn't go quietly. A weekend protest/party/concert at the club left two musicians — pianist Rebecca Moore and guitarist Marc Ribot — behind bars. Supporters are holding press conference today at noon on the steps of City Hall "to ask for public and political intervention to protect new music/indie/avant/jazz in New York City."

Responding to community outrage at the eviction of Tonic — a center of New York City's new music cultural life for the last 9 years — an ad hoc committee of musicians, cultural activists, and supporters are convening to call for public and political intervention.
