Media Catches Up to San Diego Sportscaster Slur

Last Monday, Fox 5 San Diego sports anchor Ross Shimabuku made a very poor choice of words. After playing a clip of Danica Patrick talking about how she wished the media would use a word other than “sexy” when referring to her, Shimabuku stated, “Oh I got a few words; starts with a ‘b’, and it’s not beautiful.”

On Tuesday February 21, Shimabuku apologized on-air for his offensive remarks; he was also suspended for a week without pay. Today, the national media has caught up to the story, sparking renewed debate about his comments.

Deadspin.com covered the topic on Saturday, followed today by USA TODAY, NBCSports.com, Radar Online and no doubt many more. As a result of all this, Shimabuku’s bio is currently one of the most viewed pages on the Fox 5 website.
