Saveur Hungry for Conde Nast Talent

saveur10.13.08.jpgFood magazine Saveur raided Conde Nast‘s pantry, stealing Bon Appetit creative marketing director Maryellen Mooney to be its new New York account director. She will start immediately.

In her 14-year tenure in the Conde stable, Mooney worked at Bon Appetit and Gourmet in a variety of marketing positions. In 2001, she won the company’s “Marketer of the Year” award. The full release is after the jump.


SAVEUR MAGAZINE ADDS DEPTH TO SALES TEAM EPICUREAN AND TRAVEL TITLE TAPS CONDE NAST, NAMES MARYELLEN MOONEY NEW YORK ACCOUNT DIRECTOR

New York, New York (October 13, 2008) — SAVEUR, the award-winning food, wine and travel title, today announced the growth of the New York-based advertising sales team. The magazine named Maryellen (Mel) Mooney New York Account Director. Merri Lee Kingsly, publisher of SAVEUR, made the announcement; effective immediately.

“SAVEUR is a natural fit for me to create fresh, new and innovative ways that will support clients and their strategic needs,” said Mel Mooney, New York Account Director for SAVEUR. “I am excited about the opportunity to work at a magazine that is so inspirational, inviting and influential.”

Mooney joins SAVEUR from Conde Nast Publications Inc, where she held marketing positions at Bon Appetit and Gourmet magazines for 14 years. As Creative Marketing Director for Bon Appetit, she generated over $10.5 million in additional ad page revenue in 2007. During Mooney’s tenure there, she also developed and managed the art department’s advertising and promotion budget while overseeing the Creative Services Art Department. She was previously the Creative Marketing Director, Creative Design Director, and Art Director for the magazine.

Prior to her tenure at Bon Appetit, Mel Mooney was the freelance Associate Art Director for Gourmet, a position she held for three years. She developed and branded all marketing sales presentations for the magazine, and also directed the photography for special advertising sections. Simultaneously, she held both freelance Corporate Advertising Sales and Graphic Designer positions at Gourmet. She was also a freelance Senior Designer for the brand.

Mooney was named “Marketer of the Year” by Conde Nast Publications Inc. and “Marketer of the Year” by Bon Appetit magazine in 2001 for her stellar strategies. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Parsons School of Design.
