Car and Driver, Road & Track Get Sales Development Director

Jason Nikic has been named sales development director — a new role — at Car and Driver and Road & Track. Nikic comes to Hearst Magazines from The Atlantic Media Company, where he served as intergrated sales manager. Prior to that, Nikic was an account manager with Rodale.

“Jason’s experience in creating truly customized integrated sales programs will be a huge asset, said Felix DiFilippo, publisher and chief revenue officer of Car and Driver and Road & Track. “As an avid auto enthusiast, he truly personifies these brands and will be a welcome addition to the team.”

Nikic begins his new role October 1.

Hearst Magazines Makes Automotive Brand Changes

Felix DiFilippo has been named Publisher and Chief Revenue Officer of Car and Driver and Road & Track. DiFilippo comes to Hearst Magazines from The Atlantic Media Company, where he most recently served as Associate Publisher. He had been with Atlantic Media since 2008.

DiFilippo succeeds Robert Houghtlin III, who is now Executive Director of Automotive Sales for Hearst Men’s Group. Houghtlin will be responsible for automotive advertising for the Car and Driver, Road & Track and Popular Mechanics brands.

“Felix will be instrumental in taking these highly respected brands to the next level of growth, building on the foundation that Rob and the team created,” said Jack Essig, Senior Vice President, Publishing Director and Chief Revenue Officer for Hearst Men’s Group. “We see great potential in these titles, and we’re excited to further develop them a full 360 degrees.”

DiFilippo will begin at Hearst on March 26.

Hachette Names New Automotive Group CEO

jumpstart.jpgAfter reorganizing its titles into various brand groups throughout the year, Hachette Filipacchi has appointed a new CEO of its automotive group.

Starting on January 1, Dillion McDonald, the current COO of the Jumpstart Automotive Group, will take on the responsibilities of CEO, replacing Steve Wilhite, who will stay on as an advisor and member of the Board of Directors.

McDonald has worked for Jumpstart since 2001, and served in various roles in sales, operations and marketing before being named COO.

Hachette restructured its automotive group earlier this year, combining Car and Driver and Road & Track under the same umbrella as the Jumpstart online network purchased by the company in spring 2007.

New York Times: More information about the lengths the Times went to to keep reporter David Rohde‘s kidnapping off the media’s radar: Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales joined in the effort to monitor Rohde’s Wikipedia page and delete any references to the kidnapping.

Folio: Hachette Filipacchi Media is reorganizing its automotive brands, Car and Driver and Road & Track, under the Jumpstart online network purchased in spring 2007. The structure of the new Jumpstart Automotive Group will be similar to the new structure implemented for Hachette’s women’s and shelter titles.

Hachette Dumps Men’s Enthusiast Group Publisher, Looks To Sell Titles

matarazzo2.jpg Two months after restructuring its women’s titles, Hachette Filipacchi Media has started to expand its restructuring efforts to its men’s enthusiast titles. Yesterday, the company’s president and CEO Alain Lemarchand announced that 28-year veteran Nick Matarazzo, group publishing director of Hachette’s Men’s Enthusiast Network, would be leaving the company. An internal memo said that Matarazzo and Hachette “mutually agreed” to part ways and noted that his position will not be filled.

Matarazzo (left) oversaw titles such as Car and Driver, Road & Track, Cycle World, American Photo, Popular Photography, Boating, Flying and Sound & Vision. Anne Janas, senior vice president of corporate communications at Hachette, confirmed that the company is in discussions to sell a number of those titles — the photography books, Boating, Flying and Sound & Vision — but said Matarazzo’s departure did not necessarily mean that they were close to a deal. But we’re going to keep our eye on it.

As for the other titles in the M.E.N. group, Janas said Hachette “will continue to make changes [like the recent brand-centric restructuring at its women's titles] in order to best meet today’s market challenges.”
