Time Inc. Vet Cyd Wilson Branches Out with Her Own Firm

It’s been a great run for Cyd Wilson at Time Inc. But after 17 years as west coast based director of creative development for the Style and Entertainment Group, the 54-year-old has decided it’s time to continue working her awards season and branding magic for a different boss – herself.

As a testament to how pleased Time Inc. has been with Wilson’s efforts, they will become a client of Cyd Wilson Entertainment Marketing. The CSUN graduate, who began her career far from the glamour of Hollywood working in psychiatric hospital administration, started on her current path when she volunteered for the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. That led to the position of development director and her eventual recruitment by then People publisher Ann Moore.

From this morning’s announcement:

“As an ambassador for our brands in Los Angeles and in the entertainment industry, she has been nothing less than extraordinary, representing us with intelligence, integrity and creative flair,” stated Tim Inc. editor-in-chief Martha Nelson.” She has advanced our name and our business and we all owe her a debt of gratitude for her many efforts.”

Writer Counts Down Rancid James Lipton Interviews

Over at Nerve.com, contributor Rod Bastanmehr has come up with a fun way to tease the 18th season of Bravo’s Inside the Actors Studio, which debuts later this month. He counts down what he believes to be the five worst episodes in the show’s history.

There’s no doubt that over the years, host James Lipton has anchored countless hours of insightful conversation and provided the inspiration for one of Will Ferrell‘s most enduring SNL recurring bits. But every once in a while, as Bastanmehr so accurately points out, the program goes off the Method rails, usually because the featured guest in no way fits the Stanlislavski bill.

To find out who Bastanmehr thinks was the worst of all time, you’ll have to click through to the article. The only questionable selection on this chronicler’s list, as several comments also note, is Lipton’s 2004 conversation with Charlize Theron. The Oscar winning actress really does not belong alongside the likes of Tim Allen and Martin Lawrence.

Filmmaker Shocked by Manson Girls Submissions

Writer-director Susanna Lo recently put out the word to Hollywood agents and managers that she needed an actress around the age of 60 for a small cameo role in her upcoming Thora Birch project Manson Girls. When Lo started sorting through the responses, she was shocked to find a virtual who’s who of mature leading ladies.

The list began with Terry Moore, one-time resident of Peyton Place and Oscar nominee for Come Back, Little Sheba, and included everyone from Academy Award winner Shirley Jones (pictured) and recent Walk of Fame inductee Diane Ladd to Cheryl Ladd, former Dynasty diva Joan Collins and even Lo’s ideal choice of Kathleen Turner.
