Fox News Website Defaced, ‘Internal Production Problem’ to Blame (The Verge)
Fox News’ website briefly appeared to be defaced Tuesday afternoon in what the network is calling an “internal production problem.” For several minutes, the site’s foremost story was changed to the headline “WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE,” with the blurb beneath it reading, “STUFF YO.” Another headline read, “HERE IS SOME STUFF FO YO,” but the website — aside from what were seemingly a few display glitches — was otherwise untouched. Even the headlines regarding zombies and Apple’s “Maverick Sea Lion” were actually old stories that had been resurfaced. NY Observer Fox News addressed the glitch on social media, tweeting, “As you may have seen, http://FoxNews.com is having issues. It’s an internal production problem and will be fixed soon. #FoxNews” AccessAtlanta.com / The Buzz “During routine website maintenance, a home page prototype was accidently moved to the actual site,” Fox News’ chief digital officer, Jeff Misenti, said in a statement. “As with any mistake in testing, engineers noticed the error and quickly brought the site back to its normal function.” FishbowlNY We take back all the mean things we’ve ever said about Fox News. “WEEEEEEEEEEEEEE” and the simplistic, yet startling accurate “STUFF YO” is some of the most concrete reporting we’ve seen on the site in quite awhile.

Speculation Swirls Around Nikki Finke’s Future at Deadline Hollywood (LA Times)
Deadline Hollywood founder Nikki Finke is famous for breaking news on the entertainment industry. But on Sunday night the hot Hollywood gossip was being reported not by her but about her. Speculation about Finke’s future at Deadline Hollywood heated up after rival online publication TheWrap reported that Finke was dismissed from her position after clashing with Jay Penske, the chief executive of Penske Media Corp., or PMC, which owns Deadline Hollywood. Deadline Hollywood Here is an official response just sent internally: “This is a complete fabrication, with not an ounce of truth to it. Just to be clear, Nikki Finke has a multi-year contract with the company, and it is the company’s absolute intention to continue its obligations under the agreement. It is sad when a rival business feels the need to fabricate stories to create traffic and notoriety. Due to the defamatory and disparaging nature of some of the completely inaccurate statements made by Waxman, PMC has turned this matter over to our attorneys.” TheWrap / WaxWord Penske emailed TheWrap to say: “Sharon, your story isn’t true and all of the “facts” that you mention are completely erroneous.” When asked repeatedly if Finke was in fact leaving Deadline, he did not respond. Finke did not return an email or call seeking comment. BuzzFeed Let’s assume, though, that it’s the beginning of the end for Nikki’s Deadline. Penske isn’t going to stop owning Variety — reportedly the most recent cause of their friction, since he’s shut her out of having anything to do with it — and I’ve heard from multiple people that her contract is up soon. (TheWrap’s Sharon Waxman reported that it expires next year.) Penske knew he bought crazy, but he may just be sick of it at this point. FishbowlLA Waxman’s report has shot “Nikki Finke” onto Twitter’s Los Angeles Trends chart. All we know for sure right now is that the Deadline doyenne’s current contract ends in 2014. Anything else, including the idea that a removal or exit of Finke is a prelude to Penske folding Deadline into Variety, is pure speculation.

WGA 07 Strike Week 4: Sing A Song

Director Peter Hyoguchi interviewed Michael Tabb, Wendy Mericle, Zack Stratis, Monica Henderson, Matthew Goodman and Damon Lindelof. Soulful flute music doesn’t do much for us.

The strike has a theme song: We Are the Writers. We like Look for the Union Label more.

Deadline Hollywood has a commenter calling for a picket line at Disneyland.

Maybe Carson Daly should just give up. Is anyone really demanding that he return?

UPDATE: Deadline Hollywood vs. Gold Derby: Spoiler Smackdown!

OScars2007.jpg

Gold Derby’s Tom O’Neil, who’ll also be live-blogging tonight, tries to refute the Spoilers posted on Deadline Hollywood. He’s got Steve Pond commenting on the said spoilers. And naturally, Deadline Hollywood comes back strong, writing:

I’m told some of these alterations were made over this weekend because of my spoilers, and some because the changes weren’t popular.

Pond replies to the reply. Cut it out, you two!

FBLA does the math–and does it again.

DH vs. GD: The Scoreboard

DH: 1, This first secret is big. Huge. Gigantic. It’s that Steven Spielberg, Francis Ford Coppola, and George Lucas…

GD: No mention

Spoiler! DH 1, GD 0

DH: 2. I can reveal another secret which the Academy is keeping–that Tom Cruise will be presenting the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award to ex-Paramount mogul Sherry Lansing.

GD: that was reported by Slate a day or two before.

Unspoiler! DH 1, GD 1

DH: 3. Here’s another spoiler: Oscar telecast producer Laura Ziskin and Dreamgirls director Bill Condon have planned that each of the Dreamgirls — Beyonce, Jennifer Hudson, and Anika Noni Rose–will sing each others’ songs from the movie.

GD: All I can really say is that the number is very collaborative.

GD: The ‘Dreamgirls’ songs have not changed. They were pre-recorded several days ago, all with the same arrangements that will be used tonight. There was never anything changed in reaction to any of her reports.

Spoiler! DH 2, GD 1

Un-Spoiler! DH 1, GD 2

DH: 4. Here’s another secret: I’m told that there’s a big change in the order that the awards will be presented.

GD: It is true that one of the supporting awards will not be handed out in the first third of the show, which is the usual…

GD:I have the copies of every daily show breakdown starting from Monday of this week and the awards never moved.

Spoiler! DH 3, GD 1
