Time Inc. to Leave Time & Life Building (FishbowlNY)
Time Inc. is moving on. The company announced that it is moving its offices from the iconic Time & Life Building — where the publisher has been since 1959 — to Brookfield Place in Lower Manhattan. Politico / Dylan Byers on Media Time Inc. CEO Joe Ripp announced the news in an email to staff. The move will bring Time Inc. within a two-minute walk of the new Condé Nast offices at One World Trade. Deadline New York The company looked at options in New York and New Jersey. But Brookfield Place’s planned $250 million renovation — adding lots of upscale restaurants and shopping — plus “the incentive package we received from Governor Andrew Cuomo and Empire State Development drove our decision to stay in New York City,” Ripp said. Time Inc. has a long-term lease at 225 Liberty Street to occupy six floors and 700,000 square feet of office space. Variety The publishing company will ease into its new headquarters in late 2015. The relocation comes as parent company Time Warner is preparing to spin-off Time into a separate, publicly traded company on June 6. WSJ With the Time lease, Brookfield has leased about 3 million square feet of the 4.2 million square feet of Bank of America Corp.’s Merrill Lynch office space that expired in 2013.

Contract-less Good Day New York Staff Petition Their Bosses

MyFoxNYLogoNegotiations for a new WGA East contract covering segment producers at WNYW Fox 5′s Good Day New York have been open for two years now. The previous Collective Bargaining Agreement ran from 2008 to May 2012.

This week, frustrated segment producers delivered a petition to management urging WNYW to resolve this situation. The petition, featuring 41 signatures, was emailed to Fox Local Station Group CEO Jack Abernethy and CFO Betsy Swanson, and personally handed to WNYW assistant news director Emad Asghar. Here’s how it, powerfully, begins:

Our last raise was in 2011. Inflation has increased significantly since then and the cost of living and working in New York City has increased even more.

At the same time, the company has realized cost savings by shutting down the WWOR evening news program and then eliminating the WNYW investigative unit. Similarly, our productivity has increased as we have taken on new duties.

Turkish Telecoms Authority Moves Against YouTube After Twitter Ban (Reuters)
The Turkish telecoms authority TIB said on Thursday it had taken an “administrative measure” against YouTube, a week after it blocked access to microblogging site Twitter. NYT / The Lede The Turkish government blocked access to YouTube after an audio recording was uploaded to the platform in which the foreign minister and senior military and intelligence officials could be heard discussing the security situation in Syria. WSJ The leaked recording published anonymously purported to show a conversation in which Turkey’s foreign minister, spy chief and a top general appear to discuss scenarios that could lead to a Turkish attack against Jihadist militants in Syria. After the two-part voice file was published, Turkey’s Foreign Ministry sent a letter to the TIB requesting that it shutter YouTube. The content represents a “first degree threat to national security,” the ministry said, according to Turkey’s state-run Anadolu news agency. CNN Turkey’s top media regulating agency announced a similar ban on the broadcast of the conversation to television and radio channels. Turkey’s political elite has been battered by a campaign of wiretap leaks recorded by unknown operatives and distributed daily for more than a month on the Internet. Until Wednesday, all of the wiretaps seemed to be recordings of phone conversations between Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, his inner circle, government officials and some top corporate executives. Politico The move comes just days before significant local elections. Turkish residents decried the Twitter blockage, which prevented them from using the site in any way. A Turkish court overturned the ban on Wednesday, although it could stay in place until after Sunday’s elections. The Twitter crackdown came after similar information appeared on the site questioning the government’s credibility.

Regis Philbin Mocks Dave Price in Good Day New York Appearance

Now that Regis Philbin is retired from his long running daily show, Live!, he had time to visit Good Day New York today with Rosanna Scotto and Dave Price.

The legendary broadcaster, who has logged more hours than any other TV personality in the medium’s history, was given a hero’s welcome on the Good Day set during the 9 a.m. hour. The extended interview was helping to hawk his autobiography, How I Got This Way, now on paperback, and a book signing tonight in New Jersey.

In discussing an excerpt from the book about Philbin’s co-hosts, Price concluded, “The reason they were great is because you were great.”

However, Price’s compliment got a bit confusing, especially to Philbin.

“You can not have success like that without an Alpha that is willing to say, ‘A rising tide lifts all boats,’ and that’s why everyone was a star who you worked with,” Price says.

Philbin without missing a beat made fun of the cryptic phrase.

“You know after every chapter I put what I learned,” Philbin jokes. “And what I just learned from you is, ‘a rising, what the hell is that?”

After further analysis of the “rising tide” line, Philbin leaned over to Scotto, “You’re getting rid of him soon, arent you?”

Rosanna Scotto Co-Hosts on Anderson Live Today

Like a sale at your favorite department store, One Day Only! That could be the banner headline as Rosanna Scotto does a TV doubleheader today. Following her Good Day New York work at WNYW with Dave Price, Channel 5 viewers will see Scotto guest host on Anderson Cooper‘s syndicated daytime show. This season Anderson took it up a notch as Anderson Live. But to accommodate Scotto, our sister site TVSpy reports the show was recorded earlier this week.

Anderson Live is seen at noon on WNYW.

TVSpy has a video clip
of Scotto showing off her rarely seen dancing talents.

FishbowlNY Poll: Readers Again Make Case for Dave Price’s Exodus From Good Day New York

FishbowlNY readers and WNYW viewers have decided for the second time this month that Dave Price should be dropped from Good Day New York. And it should be emphasized, those same readers don’t just want him replaced by anyone, they want Greg Kelly back in mornings alongside Rosanna Scotto.

In our latest poll that started two weeks ago, we asked for an opinion of Price’s performance on Good Day.

Mitt Romney or President Obama would be thrilled being on the receiving end of staggering results like this.

Price is certainly no Howard Cosell, but if our (unscientific) poll is any indication, viewers either love him or hate him.

With a 50 percent landslide, 63 percent of our voters choose,”Bring back Greg!” Delving deeper, we find even more of an “anti-Price” wave. Another 12 percent “pulled the lever” for our poll choice, “Bad choice by Channel 5, he shouldn’t be a morning news anchor!” That means 3/4 of the poll takers want Price out, with or without Kelly returning to the seat.

FishbowlNY Poll: Readers Emphatically Want Greg Kelly Back on Good Day New York

Kelly at 10 p.m. with back-up anchor Sharon Crowley

The ballots are in, although the voting never officially ended. And it’s bad news for Greg Kelly, but worse news for WNYW.

Our FishbowlNY poll posted two weeks ago allowed readers and viewers to tell it to us straight–What do you think of Kelly as an evening anchor?

Presumably you know that Kelly started in July as Channel 5′s lead anchor. It was the final piece of a major swarm of activity that included Dave Price returning to WNYW as Good Day New York anchor, and Ernie Anastos being bounced from the 10 p.m. (He remains on the 5 p.m. with Dari Alexander).

By a nearly 2 to 1 margin, our respondents want Kelly back where he “belongs”: mornings. A whopping 45 percent of poll takers want the Kelly and Rosanna Scotto as a team again on Good Day. This month would have been their fourth anniversary as on-air “husband and wife.”

But those who responded to the poll were split on “Kelly After Dark,” as 24 percent chose, “He’s Great!” Another 20 percent clicked on the “Bring Back Ernie!” option. We’re not certain, though, how many of the 45 percent wanting Kelly switched to his original “home base” would in fact like Anastos to reclaim is previous 10 p.m. duties.

Now it’s time to take our poll about Dave Price, after the jump.
