The man who helped created the effects for the original three Star Wars films has passed away. Grant McCune was the effects artist who worked on the models and miniatures for the Star Wars trilogy, as well as dozens of other films. He won an Oscar in 1977 for his work on the original “Star Wars.”

Aside from his work on Star Wars, McCune received an Academy Award nomination for Best Visual Effects in 1980 for his work on Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

McCune died of pancreatic cancer. He was 67.

RIP, Mr. McCune. Your work won’t be forgotten.
