Ryan Ruocco Expands YES Network Duties, Named Host of This Week in Football

Ryan Ruocco has not quit his day job as midday co-host on ESPN 98.7 with Stephen A. Smith. Instead, Ruocco, is adding more visibility at night on the YES Network.

Ruocco has been named host of the cable network’s This Week in Football, the in-season studio show that focuses on the Giants and Jets matchups. Ruocco works alongside veteran analysts Howard Cross, Ross Tucker and Gary Myers.  Ruocco will remain part of the inaugural Brooklyn Nets broadcast team.

“Ryan has displayed a maturity, confidence and a grasp for his assignments that belies his age,” said John J. Filippelli, president of production and programming, YES Network.  “His play-by-play work for us has been very impressive, and we look forward to his enriching This Week in Football, already among the best NFL studio programs on television, with his contributions.”

Ruocco’s start at YES dates back to 2007 as a statistician for the network’s New York Yankees telecasts.  His responsibilities soon grew to include play-by-play work on Nets and Fordham Rams basketball telecasts. Prior to joining the YES Network, Ruocco handled basketball and football play-by-play at WFUV, Fordham’s radio station, while an undergraduate there.  In addition, he hosted WFUV’s One on One, New York’s longest-running sports call-in show.

YES Network Names New Yankees’ Sideline Reporter

Meredith Marakovits has been selected the YES Network’s New York Yankees clubhouse reporter. She’ll appear within the network’s Yankees game telecasts, pre-and post-game shows, and Yankees Batting Practice Today show.

Marakovits will also appear on YES’ special Yankees programming and will contribute to YESNetwork.com.

She replaces Kim Jones, who left the network after last season.

“Meredith possesses major market experience, an ability to move from features to clubhouse work to studio work with ease, and the prerequisite knowledge of and passion for baseball,” said John J. Filippelli, president of production and programming for the YES Network.  “Although she has excelled at covering numerous sports, Meredith has shown a particular talent for covering baseball, and she will fit right in with our Yankees broadcast team.”

Now Batting for the YES Network… Number 14… Lou Piniella

Lou Piniella has been a New York Yankee player, manager, and general manager. Now, “Sweet Lou” added Yankee broadcaster to his resume´.

Piniella was welcomed today in a conference call as the newest member of the YES broadcast team in 2012.

He will be a game and studio analyst for Yankee coverage this season. Additionally, Piniella will also be part of the team for Spring Training next month from Legends Field in Florida, and any potential post-season action in October.

Piniella will also contribute to YESNetwork.com.

Piniella played his final 11 Major League seasons with the Yankees. He was an integral part of the 1977 and 1978 World Series Championship teams.

The Yankees Return to WWOR/Channel 9 in 2012

For the eighth consecutive year, the New York Yankees are calling WWOR/Channel 9 their over-the-air home. Yankee fans will see 21 games during the season on the Fox-owned station.

In making the announcement, WWOR general manager Lew Leone said, “We are proud to continue our partnership with the YES Network as we work together to deliver another exciting broadcast season of Yankees baseball to tri-state viewers.”

Among the highlights of the 2012 Channel 9 schedule:

  • The first broadcast is April 10 at the Baltimore Orioles
  • The first home game is May 18 against the Cincinnati Reds
  • Two Mets games: June 8— at Yankee Stadium; June 22 at CitiField
  • Two Red Sox games: August 17 at Yankee Stadium; September 11 at Fenway Park
  • Final broadcast: September 25 at Minnesota Twins

“YES has enjoyed a very productive relationship with WWOR over the years, and Yankees fans will benefit from the continuity this deal brings,” said John J. Filippelli, president of production and programming at the YES Network.
