Lisa Lampanelli and the New York Times

Every once in a while, a reviewer or interviewer will note the journalism background of stand-up star Lisa Lampanelli. The latest to do this, ahead of the 52-year-old performer’s Saturday night engagement in Pittsfield, MA, is Berkshire Eagle reporter Dick Lindsay.

Since the name of Lampanelli’s current tour is “Leaner, Meaner,” we thought it worth revisiting another recent such LL piece. Last year, Las Vegas Review-Journal nightlife columnist Doug Elfman reminded of the role played by the Grey Lady with regards to this lady’s tour and stage tags:

“I know how to manipulate the press a little bit,” says Lampanelli, who studied post-grad journalism at Harvard.

“Back in the day, I wanted a nickname,” she says. “So I remember getting interviewed by the New York Times, and I planted the whole ‘Queen of Mean’ nickname in the Times.”

Former Seacrest Intern Gets National Radio Show

Tim Mihalsky, a native of Thousand Oaks, would schlep over that hill everyday to get coffee and answer phones for Ryan Seacrest. That was five years ago. “I used to watch Ryan and Ellen talk all morning long and thought, ‘I could do that’ and I now I am,” Mihalsky tells FishbowlLA.

The now 24-year-old built his radio show from the ground up, called advertisers and markets himself offering them his original daily content. And now FoxRock Syndication Services has Tim’s show on their roster.

The lesson here: Never give up and always be nice to your interns. They may have a national platform one day.

Congrats Tim! Here’s a link to his site.

Trump Gets Roasted, But ‘The Situation’ Gets Burned

The Hammerstein Ballroom was packed to the brim with wannabes, has-beens and the occasional celebrity last night, as Comedy Central taped its roast of Donald Trump.

The roast, which will air next Tuesday, saw a lineup of comedians like Lisa Lampanelli and Jeff Ross, join some celebrity roasters like Marlee Matlin, Larry King and Snoop Dogg to mock one another and Trump himself.

Also in attendance: Jersey Shore’s Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino, but more on him later.

Trump, who made (and lost) billions in real estate and casinos, and is said to be considering a Republican presidential run, spent much of the night in a chair in the middle of the stage, glowering, as his daughter Ivanka and wife Melania watched from the audience. FishbowlNY also spotted John Legend, Ice-T, Norah Jones and Russell Simmons in the crowd.

Playboy Adds New Columnists

Playboy has added three new columnists to its roster –  Lisa Lampanelli, Nick Tosches and Brooklyn favorite Jonathan Ames. All three have penned books, and Lampanelli has a promising stand-up comedy career.

Lampanelli has appeared many times on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Tosches’ writing has appeared in The New York Times, Vanity Fair and The Village Voice, and Ames, despite being the author of several popular books, might be best known as the creator of the HBO show Bored to Death.

Lampanelli’s “Women” column and Tosches’ “Men” column can be found in the March issue of Playboy, which just hit newsstands. Ames’ first column will be featured in the May issue.

Right now every single male friend of these columnists is sending a “can you get me into the Playboy mansion” text.

Lisa Lampanelli To Host The Oscars of Porn

The AVN Media Network announced this week that the 2011 AVN Awards show will be hosted by “The Queen of Mean,” insult comic Lisa Lampanelli. The AVN Awards, often referred to as the “Oscars of porn,” are the most prestigious in L.A.’s other multi-billion dollar film industry. Said Lampanelli of her hosting gig:

It’s so exciting to be named as host of the AVN Awards. Thank God Betty White had a scheduling conflict! No, seriously, this is a dream come true. I always wanted to host a show in a room full of pussies, boobs and giant dicks, but they wouldn’t let me host the MTV Video Music Awards! I’m also excited because I’ll finally have an excuse to wear those crotchless panties I’ve been saving for a special occasion.

The AVN awards will be held in Las Vegas on January 8, and your FBLA editors sure would like to be there.
