Journo Improvises Louie Walking Tour

New York Observer staff writer Vinnie Mancuso decided it might be fun to visit some of the iconic Manhattan locations featured in Louis CK’s sitcom. However, as his slide show documents, the halo of the F/X series was – on this night at least – hard to pin down.

VinnieMancusoObserverBio

A man in line at the Comedy Cellar had never heard of the show. A waiter at Banjara, one of two restaurants featured in the “bang-bang” back-to-back meals Louie episode, went out of his way to deny being a witness to any location shoot. Finally, at the very end, Mancuso found a show fan at the Ukrainian diner Veselka:

My waitress was a pretty blonde with the interesting name of Karlyn. She was from New Jersey. She would probably be out of my league on a night that I only ate one dinner. But I pressed my luck, for the sake of this tour.

Up Next for Jerry Seinfeld: Tina Fey

We are longtime, early fans of Jerry Seinfeld‘s Crackle Web series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. And so, it was with bittersweet disappointment that we greeted the recent half-season relaunch featuring Louis CK.

Seinfeld trolley-ed down to an NYC dock with the incomparable everyman comic and took a ride in CK’s Jaws-like boat. It’s not that the episode was terrible or anything; it was just surprisingly flat – like the Manhattan surrounding waters on filming day – and surprisingly light in terms of laugh-out-loud moments.

KCRW to Air Marc Maron’s WTF

No idea how they’re going to pull this off, but KCRW has decided to air 10 episodes of Marc Maron‘s wonderful podcast WTF–which, if for some reason you can’t figure it out, stands for “What the Fuck.” And therein, seemingly, lies the trouble. Maron begins each and every show by saying fuck no less than 12 times, and isn’t shy about using it during his interviews either. Why should he be shy? It’s his podcast.

But the FCC might have something to say about the matter if anything close to an unedited podcast goes over the airwaves. Especially on Sundays at 11AM, which is when KCRW plans to run the program.

The shows KCRW chose to air are all old, so they’ll have plenty of time to scrub them clean. It will be interesting to see what’s left.
