Lingerie Models Warm Up KTLA Morning Forecast

On the heels of last week’s use of a pair of models to help with the weather forecast on Fox & Friends, KTLA Morning News producers upped the Sweeps ante today. In honor of Valentine’s Day, they paired weathermen Mark Kriski and Henry DiCarlo with a couple of lingerie-clad babes.

Actually, you have to hand it to KTLA for multi-tasking these women. The pair were on-set to model Frederick’s of Hollywood gear as part of this morning’s overall Valentine’s Day theme, and so it was just a hop, skip and a pump to get them in front of the green screen.

Jackie Johnson Wedding Flies Under Doppler Radar

Three months ago, Tony Pierce noticed a monumental ring on the engagement-wedding finger of CBS 2 weather gal Jackie Johnson. It was, he blogged, a “developing” story tinged quite possibly with (his) “infinite sadness.”

Last Friday, Pierce—formerly blog editor at the LA Times and now working in that same capacity at KPCC—was able to confirm his summer scoop, via Johnson’s posting of June Aruba Antigua wedding pictures on her Facebook page. It’s rather amazing that she was able to keep this all so quiet. Noted Pierce:

OK, so the busblog was two months late on the news, but do you know anyone else who even whispered about it? Anyways, congratulations Jackie Johnson. When you are telling us the news, we stop what we’re doing. Quite a trick when we’re talking about LA weather, which is generally lovely. Except for today.

Mark Kriski and Jennifer Gould Tie KTLA Knot

Here’s a picture worth a thousand TV weather forecasts:

It was taken shortly after KTLA weatherman Mark Kriski and station reporter Jennifer Gould got married Saturday September 24 on the sand in Huntington Beach. Officiating in a non-denominational, “officiant” capacity was TV and radio legend Charlie Van Dyke.

KTLA‘s Jennifer Gould and Mark Kriski are ready to tie the knot. Kriski proposed yesterday and Gould tells Fishbowl LA he took her completely by surprise. “I was FLOORED [and] had no idea!! It was my birthday so that’s all I had anticipated celebrating!”

Congrats you crazy kids!

Wednesday’s Forecast: Final Surgery for KTLA’s Mark Kriski

This past Sunday, KTLA Morning News weatherman Mark Kriski celebrated his two-year anniversary with girlfriend and station colleague Jennifer Gould. Tomorrow, he is looking forward to another momentous event: the final bit of surgery related to his tenacious recovery from viral pneumonia.

“After everything that’s been done, the doctors just need to go back in and take a look, remove any dead tissue, and so on,” Kriski tells FishbowlLA this morning via telephone. “They’re estimating that I will be in the hospital for two days, and then back home for another ten days to two weeks of recovery.”

Mark Kriski: ‘I Couldn’t Be Better’

KTLA’s Mark Kriski is set to make his triumphant return to the airwaves after being sidelined for several months battling a wicked case of viral pneumonia. Kriski needed several emergency surgeries to save his life, but now tells Fishbowl LA “I couldn’t be better.” Kriski feels so good in fact, he plans to return to the 7-10 shift this Monday–though he isn’t coming back full time yet.

“They’re going to ease me in,” Kriski says. “I don’t know how many days a week yet. We’re going to have to see how the energy is.”

That makes sense, considering Kriski’s battle with pneumonia still isn’t over yet. He still needs one final surgery which will keep him out of action for up to 10 days. “They need go in and clean everything up and make sure everything is OK,” he says. “There’s only so much information you can get from an ultrasound.”

Mark Kriski Released from the Hospital After a Nearly Two-Month Stay

KTLA’s Mark Kriski has been released from Northridge Hospital and is back home recuperating from a more than two-month battle with viral pneumonia. “It looks like I’m out of the woods,” Kriski tells Fishbowl LA by phone, his voice strong but by no means fully recovered. “Hopefully third time is the charm.”

Kriski, who’s been in and out of the hospital a couple of times since before Thanksgiving,  says he had no ordinary case of viral pneumonia–it was an anti-biotic resistant strain, a Vancomycin-Resistant Enterococci (VRE) infection. What began with him catching an office-wide flu, soon morphed into something much worse. “One day [doctors] were trying Penicillin, the next day something else, the next day something else. Leslie Nielsen and Jack LaLanne just died of pneumonia. Thankfully I’m younger than both those guys, but this was quite a fight.”

In Case You Missed It: Mark Kriski Talks Bodily Fluids On KTLA’s Morning News

We blogged about his return yesterday, but here’s the video for those who are curious about Mark Kriski‘s brief return to the air yesterday. Mmmmm. Bodily fluids.

Previously on FBLA: Mark Kriski Back On the Air, At Least For the Day

Mark Kriski Back On the Air, At Least For the Day

It had been nearly two months (to our best recollection) but Mark Kriski was back on the air today–calling in to KTLA’s morning news show from his hospital bed. Kriski has been sidelined in the hospital with a brutal case of viral pneumonia since just after Thanksgiving.

So how’s he doing?

“Still a little bit weak. You lie in a hospital bed for a few weeks and that will knock you out. But I’m feeling much better.”

Indeed, Kriski seemed to be in good spirits, asking the morning news crew if they “wanna talk about gross bodily fluids?” Everyone answered with a robust “no,” but Kriski went on to reveal that doctors had drained up to “a quart of fluid from his body,” per day since he’s been hospitalized.

Mark Kriski Still Hospitalized, But Recovering

Everyone has been wondering what’s up with KTLA weatherman Mark Kriski, who has been hospitalized with viral pneumonia for what seems like forever. Not only have we not seen him on the air, his last tweet was more than a month ago, shortly before he underwent surgery.

Last night, Kriski’s KTLA co-worker Jennifer Gould tweeted us a link to this Kriski status update by Eric Spillman–who spoke to Kriski in the hospital by phone–on KTLA’s news blog.

He told me today that he will likely be released from the hospital later this week.  Then he needs to spend a few weeks at home, taking it easy, and trying to build up his strength.  After that, he can think about coming back to work.
