Hip or Homeless? New Silver Lake Based ‘Reality’ Show?

Above is a video by Emily Braken featuring comedian Robin Reiser trying to figure out who’s homeless and who’s just hip. But the always fun, Curbed LA caught this ad on Craigslist:

A new Reality Show is casting Silver Lake’s rich, wealthy, hipster GUYS and GIRLS 21-30 whose personal style is homeless chic: Guys with beards, ratty hair and raggedy yet stylish clothing – and Girls dressed in fashionable, vintage hippie-type garb accessorized with large sunglasses and oversized tote bags. You must be incredibly involved in the Silver Lake social scene, enjoy a sensational nightlife Silver Lake style and be very outspoken with a vivacious personality. You must also hang with a racially diverse, intriguing group of friends who all live in Silver Lake.” The show sounds like it’ll be The Hills: Slightly Farther East, but we’re still crossing our fingers for a Jersey Shore: Way Farther West.

Just what we want on our teevee more greasy hipster dandruff.

Kudos to Reiser and Braken for calling it last year.

FBLA Exclusive: Defense Attorney Uses YouTube To Try And Discredit Comedian Witness

Comedian Robin Reiser (cousin to Paul Reiser) witnessed a violent episode of road rage where a man beat another man bloody in front of tons of witnesses on 3rd Street near Sweetzer. Robin called 911 and gave her contact info to authorities. So of course she was asked to testify in court against the alleged assailant.

The trial was today. Robin showed up and ADA Christine Kee told her the defense attorney Robert Swartz was going to use footage of Robin falling in front of a police car. This was a series of YouTube videos where Robin and company fell in public places and often times weird things happened like Elvis helping them up (see video above). Because people falling is always funny.

Anyway they showed the above clip (among others) for the jury. A couple jurors laughed. “I was afraid they were going to start showing my stand up, that I couldn’t handle,” Reiser tells FBLA.

So here’s the moral of the story: if you’re funny no one will ever ever take you seriously.

“I think a couple of those jurors will go and Google me when they get home. I bet I got some new fans,” riffs Reiser.

It reminds us of a quote from the late Bob Monkhouse,”When I said I was going to become a comedian, they all laughed. Well, they’re not laughing now.”
