New York Radio Station Locks In Joe Piscopo

JoePiscopoPicIn the not-too-distant future, SNL alum Joe Piscopo is apparently going to be part of a reality TV show. For now, he’s making good on that college education and very happy to be commuting weekday mornings from New Jersey into Manhattan.

Piscopo, who has been doing the weekday morning show on AM 970′s “The Answer” since the beginning of the year, has now been made official. From today’s announcement:

“I have my college degree in Broadcasting,” says Piscopo. “I remain a dedicated student of the most intimate medium, radio. And with legendary broadcast giants like GM Jerry Crowley and current day guru of all radio personalities past and present, Phil Boyce, this is the positively perfect storm of talk radio,” said Joe.

Fox News Reporter Won’t Have to Testify in Colorado (TVNewser)
FoxNews.com reporter Jana Winter cannot be forced to testify in a Colorado court. New York State’s highest court has ruled Winter cannot be compelled to testify about her reporting in the case of Colorado movie theater killer James Holmes. Winter’s story revealed the existence of Holmes’ diary that he reportedly gave to his psychiatrist before he went on his shooting spree. Fox News In a 4-3 ruling based on New York’s shield law, the state Court of Appeals reversed a lower court’s decision that could have resulted in Winter being forced to appear in the Colorado murder trial of Holmes. TheWrap “Today’s ruling is a major win for all journalists,” Fox News chairman and CEO Roger Ailes said Tuesday in a statement. “The protection of Jana Winter’s confidential sources was necessary for the survival of journalism and democracy as a whole.” FishbowlNY Lawyers for Holmes wanted Winter to testify about her confidential sources because they said it violated a gag order on the case. Winter’s lawyers claimed that New York’s shield laws should prevent Winter from having to speak up. They were right. Phil Boyce Adds VP Title at Salem in New York

Veteran radio executive Phil Boyce is increasing his workload at Salem Communications. The one-time 77 WABC programmer has been handed the title operational VP at 970 AM/WNYM, a.k.a. The Answer, and religion-based WMCA.

Boyce was hired by Salem in February as corporate VP director of the Spoken Word Format. He’ll keep that title as well.

Boyce replaces Linnae Young, who moves from regional VP in charge of the New York cluster to the Tampa group of stations, All Access reports.
