275globemoon.jpgIt’s official. After 146 years the Seattle P-I will cease to print tomorrow and exist solely online. In a press release, president of Hearst Newspapers, Steven Swartz said the Web site “isn’t a newspaper online — it’s an effort to craft a new type of digital business with a robust, community news and information Web site at its core….The Web is first and foremost a community platform, so we’ll be featuring new columns from prominent Seattle residents; more than 150 reader blogs, community databases and photo galleries. We’ll also be linking to the great work of other Web sites and blogs in the community.” Video of the announcement after the jump.

NYConvergence is speculating that George Kliavkoff, the former NBC Universal exec who helped conceive of Hulu, who was just hired by the Hearst Corporation may be involved in the new P-I online operation.
