Clippers Win Streak Sparks Momentous Locker Room Visit

The last time the Los Angeles Clippers won eleven straight NBA games, they were called the Buffalo Braves. So it’s no surprise that after Wednesday’s record-tying 11th victory over the New Orleans Hornets at Staples, some unusual activity took place in the locker room of the local NBA franchise not debilitated by a Steve Nash injury.

Per Arash Markazi‘s report on ESPN.com:

Clippers owner Donald Sterling walked into the room with an entourage of about 10 friends who normally occupy the center courtside seats at home games. It was the first time Sterling has entered the Clippers’ locker room this season and the first time many of the new players on the team had even met him.

Kobe is Correct: Lakers Nation Needs to…

Shut up.

It doesn’t matter if the Lakers lose to the Clippers tonight, just like it didn’t matter that they lost to the Mavericks and the Trail Blazers. Far beyond the first week of the 2012-13 regular season, they’re going to make the playoffs. And by that time, the team will be just fine.

Panic of this preposterous sort is what drives sports talk radio ratings. And so, if you have been listening – as we have – to ESPN 710 and KLAC 570, you are hereby forgiven for assuming the Lakers are 0-81 going into tonight rather than 0-2.

New LA Lakers Duo Graces Sports Illustrated Cover

Notice who’s missing from this cover?

Get used to seeing less of Kobe Bryant and more of the Los Angeles Lakers’ two newest stars in Steve Nash and Dwight Howard.

Nash and Howard are on the cover of the Sports Illustrated NBA preview issue, which hits newsstands on Wednesday.

In the issue, Howard tells Lee Jenkins about the first time he had an alcoholic beverage:

On the night of Aug. 10, when Howard was dealt to the Lakers, he went to dinner at Mastro’s in Beverly Hills, and a large group of strangers invited him to their private room. “They said, ‘Dwight, we want to welcome you to L.A. and make a toast to you and your new journey here,’ ” Howard recalls. “I told them, ‘Thank you, but I don’t drink, I’ve never had a drink before.’ And then I thought about it, and I was like, You know what, I think this deserves a drink.” He clinked glasses and lifted one to his lips.

That is likely the first of many toasts in honor of Howard if the Lakers can bring home another NBA championship.

Vic ‘The Brick’ Jacobs Fans Are Feeling Blue*

The Web page for Fox Sports Radio LA’s weekday national program Loose Cannons now lists only Pat O’Brien and Steve Hartman. That’s because as of this week, third wheel Vic “The Brick” Jacobs has been moved off the show in favor of spot news and Lakers coverage duties.

Allaccess.com is the first to confirm the news. Given VBJ’s loyal fan base, there will likely be more article and Facebook comments like these:

Jerry: I think they did push him out… Pat’s shtick of being impatient with Vic every day was Pat’s true feelings about Vic.

rusticgroovy: It’s only been a couple of days and I really miss Vic. I love Pat (& tolerate Steve) but the Loose Cannons are not the same. Missing you, Vic!

Your First Look at the 2012 Los Angeles Lakers

Monday marked media day for a majority of the teams in the NBA, including the Los Angeles Lakers.

The team’s two biggest offseason acquisitions, Steve Nash and Dwight Howard, officially donned the gold jerseys for the first time at the team’s training facility in El Segundo.

And in case you’re wondering who’s the alpha male on the court with all the new additions, it’s still Kobe.

“I think this is Kobe’s team,” Nash told ESPNLA.com. “For the media’s perspective, this is Kobe’s team. But anyone who’s ever played on a basketball team, it’s also our team. The team needs to share in that responsibility. Kobe can’t do everything. He’s going to be great at what he’s great at, and the rest of us got to pick up the pieces that get to us. This is undoubtedly Kobe’s team. He’s been here his whole career. He’s won championships. And he’s the best player on the team. We got to be there for him every day, so it’s essentially our team as well.”

Sorry, Dwight.

Keystone Light Says Steve Nash Clip Wasn’t Staged

The Steve Nash beer clip that surfaced over the weekend isn’t staged, according to Keystone Light.

In the clip, a group of Los Angeles Laker fans caught up to Nash’s taxi on the freeway and handed him a Keystone Light.

“While we can take credit for the ‘Always Smooth’ taste of Keystone Light, we had nothing to do with this video,” a rep told TMZ.com.

This wasn’t a good weekend for NBA point guards and alcohol as the New York Knicks’ Jason Kidd was arrested for drunk driving early Sunday morning in the Hamptons.

Video: Steve Nash Gets a Beer Assist from Laker Fans

This video is almost too good to be true.

(Which means it probably is.)

A group of Laker fans caught up with Steve Nash on the freeway and handed him a beer — all while the 38-year-old point guard was filming the whole thing.

Viral ad or just an awesome welcome to Los Angeles?

Steve Nash’s Production Company Set to Fly Even Higher

Much mention has been made in the media about how the recent blockbuster sign-and-trade deal between the Lakers and Suns will allow Steve Nash to remain close to his Phoenix-based kids while chasing after that all-important first championship ring. Equally thrilled by this latest Mitch Kupchak slam dunk is Nash’s Kingston, Ontario-born cousin Ezra Holland, who co-runs the duo’s production company Meathawk.

“Meathawk was formed around April 2008, when we we made the Sixty Million Dollar Man film for Nike,” Holland tells FishbowlLA. “We are a truly international firm with bases in London, New York, LA and until very recently Phoenix. This is because we do not have an office specifically and tend to do our work on Steve’s dining room table or mine or in the back of a cab or on the plane. Also we live all over the place.”

Steve Nash Traded to the LA Kings?

How big is hockey in Canada?

So big that Toronto’s CablePulse24 was under the impression that Phoenix Suns point guard Steve Nash was getting traded to the Los Angeles Kings — not the Los Angeles Lakers.

For the record, Nash will play alongside Kobe Bryant — not Anze Kopitar.
