The Proliferation of Laid Off Journo Support Groups
The American Society of Shitcanned Media Elites has a new buddy: Vulcan Media Team.
The organization was founded by Scott Mauldin — a former reporter at Birmingham, Alabama’s NBC13 — a couple months before he was laid off from the station.
While ASSME throws parties (a worthy endeavor to be sure), VMT is more focused on highlighting the talents of its members and using the organization to secure freelance work for the collective masses. An excerpt from its lofty statement.
We’re the new face of smart business. An agency without the overhead. We’re a team of freelancers, organized as group to provide fully integrated services without the costly overhead of a typical firm.
An interesting idea. We’ll see if it works. If not, there are always more drinks.
