Washington, DC and New York, NY (November 10, 2008) As its online properties grow in audience and influence, The Atlantic has recruited WIRED's Executive Editor Bob Cohn for the newly-created role of editorial director, TheAtlantic.com. Reporting to Editor James Bennet and based in Washington, DC, Cohn will oversee the iconic publishing brand's digital editorial efforts, including its closely-followed blogs, web-only dispatches, online delivery of magazine content and new initiatives. During October, TheAtlantic.com drew a record 36.8 million page views, 4.5 million unique visitors and 15.3 million sessions more than doubling the record figures set in August. Traffic was fueled by the commentary and analysis of The Atlantic's wide-ranging team of bloggers including Andrew Sullivan, Marc Ambinder, Ta-Nehisi Coates, Ross Douthat, Megan McArdle, Jeffrey Goldberg, James Fallows and Clive Crook. "TheAtlantic.com has become a vibrant center of dialogue and debate during a transformational time for the country," said Bennet. "Bob brings to The Atlantic a superb record as an editor and writer, and a deep understanding of the relationship between print and online brands. With his stewardship, we look forward to further engaging our readers with provocative and dynamic content while inspiring the national conversation." TheAtlantic.com's recent growth coincides with unveiling of a dramatic redesign across The Atlantic's print and digital properties. In October, The Atlantic also introduced The Atlantic Project (http://thinkagain.theatlantic.com), a multiplatform campaign encouraging Americans to "Think. Again." about the major questions of our time. About Bob Cohn Cohn has served as executive editor of WIRED since 2001, overseeing editorial aspects of the magazine and helping steer its current revival. During his tenure, WIRED secured 10 National Magazine Award nominations, including two wins in the category of General Excellence. Previously, he was executive editor of The Industry Standard and editor/publisher of Stanford magazine. He also served as White House correspondent for Newsweek. Cohn graduated from Stanford and earned a master's degree in the Study of Law from Yale Law School. Email This Post |
