No one is safe! Former Voiceer Tricia Romano reports over at Pop & Politics that the Village Voice has laid-off long-time columnist Nat Hentoff who's been at the paper since 1958 writing mainly about Jazz but more recently about civil liberties.

Also on the way out is fashion writer, Lynn Yaeger, a 30 year veteran of the paper, and staff writer Chloe Hilliard.

Hentoff spoke to the Times about his dismissal saying: "I'm 83 and a half. You'd think they'd have let me go silently...Fortunately, I've never been more productive. With all due immodesty, I think it doesn't help to lose me because people have told me they read the Voice not only for me, but certainly for me." Fortunately for those people Hentoff will still be writing a weekly column for the United Media syndicate and contributing pieces to The Wall Street Journal.
